Hamadryads fungus diary

Well Im keeping a good eye on the wood for the foray if nothing else got another soaking this evening but it was half past ieght when i came out so youve probably guessed it was pretty good in there today!

Gutted I missed a gone over Volvariella bombycina which is just a stunner in full glory, also gutted to see even more colybia, and I mean on epidemic levels in my wood now, its not good at all. I also found a rather intersting little bracket of which as yet I am totaly dumfounded, so pics up and update later when I have a posative ID.

first up, the unidentified brackets, acting Endophyticly/saprobic from what I can tell on a snapped prunus avium stem.

next up, went to check up on that little forming fistulina hepatica and got these cracking photos, these should still be viable on the foray along with some others including what looks like a parasitised bracket and looking more like a red brain than a fistulina!:001_cool:

We really must look hard at new ways to protect the root zone within our urban green spaces, we simply have to start paying more attention to the trees we know and love so much. The future of our urban and green space tree populations is under great threat, and if we do not pull our socks up soon we will lose a great many trees.

I totally agree. Ecologically, these are hard times. Despite the successes of the "conservation" uptake since the last ecological white paper (This Common Inheritance: Britain’s Environmental Strategy-1990) also cited by Rackham (A History of the Countryside) pressure continues to be relentless.

edit: Great thread Tony. Thanx for posting!

This is a rather pretty little coprinus, one of my favourites, always in large trooping groups as illustrated here, a small shroom no bigger than a little finger nail. Saprobic.

Coprinus miccaceus- Phaeolus shwienitzii- Dyers mazegill
