MS170-D muffler replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, so hello all.

Ive an MS-170-D 12" which I believe is an older version of the MS170? The muffler is broken and it seems to be different to the newer MS170 models looking at the part numbers.

Can anyone advise if it is different or can I simply buy any 170 muffler?

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers

Martin

Hi pal, yeah it is the KAT one, are they crap?

Do I still require the reflector foil and insulating pad too?

Thanks for the link too, greatly appreciated

Cheers

Martin

The KAT needs to run very hot for it to work efficiently, ive seen these exhausts glowing red and smoking ages after the saw has been turned off. The insulator pad and foil is there to stop the plastic from melting, if you leave it there it will do no harm when you fit the non KAT exhaust.

😝Any saw that does that to itself deserves everything it gets. That needs a deflector to blow the heat forwards away from the plastic.
