Trolla 104

Gentlemen,

Your advice please.

I have a bungalow which I rent to a tenant. I wish to install a woodburner. I have a spareTrolla 104 box stove which is perfect for the bungalow. I use a 104 in my farmhouse and have done so for over 30 years, it performs perfectly.

Questions:

  1. I do not have the manufacturer's data for clearance from adjacent surfaces, which I believe could be a requirement. Would a HETAS engineer be able to make an assessment and sign it off accordingly?

  2. I wish to position the stove, side on to the grate, and the grate's metal blanking panel. The stove has a rear outlet, and would require an elbow. However the longest dimension of the elbow would exceed 6” if good clearance between the side of the stove and the blanking plate was ensured. I could machine a hole in the side of the stove and attach the pipe flange. Would that pass if properly sealed?

  3. I am fully capable of installing the stove and am confident that the chimney and stove would pass the smoke test. How likely is it that a HETA engineer would provide consultation, oversee the installation, and sign it off for a fee of a thousand pounds?

The bungalow was built in 1938 of concrete block. The sitting room has a conventional grate surrounded by tiles. The hearth base is tiled concrete sitting on a wood floor. The chimney breast is of concrete block, and the external chimney is brick.

I believe the HETAS engineer can only self certify his own (tautology alert) work
