Just cut that crap off and throw it away.

 

It doesn't do anything but make you think you are safer.

 

If your whipping tears or comes apart, you need to take a good look at your entire rope anyway.

I dont climb with any heat shrink on my splices. I've whipped tons of ropes and i'm yet to have any that have been abraided, worked loose or fallen out.

 

If you're worried leccy tape is your best bet.

I wasted a LOT of rope learning to splice. I have boxes full of wasted splices i can send you some if your want

Na the electrical tape is ok, or buy some more heat shrink tube and if only 1 end is spliced thread it on then heat it.

 

Sellotape wont last 2 mins!

 

 

electricians insulation tape is not OK.

 

It has sticky stuff full of chemicals that may weaken your rope. If you must use tape only use it on the cut end. Your weight will never be loading on the last inch of rope.
