Looking for advice / employment opportunity Ayrshire/Glasgow & surrounding area's

Hi

I am in my mid 30's and after getting made redundant I decided to go back to college.

I'm going through my NPTC course at Ayrshire College which finishes in 9 days.

So far I've completed

201 Chainsaw maintenance

202 Cross Cutting with a Chainsaw

203 Tree felling & processing up to 380mm.

Then on the 21st I complete the wood chipping and pole pruning.

I have been sending away my CV's, however not much luck - any advice?

I have got my own transport and I am used to outdoor and manual work after years as a roofing labourer.

I have got my basic kit from college.

Anyone got any pointers or know of anyone looking to take me on and give me a leg up into this profession?

Thanks

Here's a link to a thread from a while ago... it's got all the advice I could give at the mo. Applies pretty universally to the tree surgery world as well as forestry as much as I can tell. There's tonnes of work out there, you've just got to know where to look and who to ask, but once you've got a foot in the door it should be a lot easier to find more work as you'll have experience.

If you do go self employed then you'll need your own PPE, saws, fuel, transport, insurance etc etc.

Best of luck
