Where do i start?

I have worked as a plant operator for the last 25 years and am now at the point where I have had enough.

I have built up a huge amount of kit over the years and I am now thinking of setting up as a part time sole trader doing landscape/garden maintenance work, hedge laying ,fencing etc all stuff I have done on the side for years.

Question is how do I set up a business part time at first maybe taking a bigger leap as time goes on?

Well thats the ideal scenario, to work on a freelance basis filling in your empty days with other companies.  Build up your own work on the side.

Thanks steve i understand that but would I be able to bring my existing kit into the business tax wise as already bought privately prior to start up?

Absolutely.  Might be worth looking at going limited if you have stuff to move into the business.  There could potentially be a tax free payout.  I did similar when I went limited, although I was a sole trader.  How it differs between a sole trader and employee I don't know.  Get a good accountant on the case.
