After being a subby arborist for getting onto 6 years now I'm thinking about taking a slightly different career route and doing my irata level 1. Does anybody have experience of this?

I just want to make sure it's the right move for me. I haven't decided what route to take it yet but I was thinking geo technical at the start to get my hours in as it's the closest to what I've been doing the last 6 years.

Is it common to be a freelance rope access worker? What money should I expect to start on and what's possible money wise with experience?

I did my level 1 irata a year ago and get regular subby work doing de veg on cliffs for a forestry contractor. Similar money to tree work.

Its just another string to my tree work bow, I've no real interest in taking the rope access thing any further. Rope access guys I've spoken to say there is going to be loads of well paid work on the wind farms in the future, but you need alot of expensive certs for that kind of work. Loads of de veg work on the railways but its usually long hard nights! Never fancied it much myself.
