Hi, Never really thought about it until I got this new bar. How far back or how close to the sprocket should the bar mount tail end be?. Is there a set standard distance.?

piccies attached below. I understand if I go too far back the angle of the chain from sprocket to bar increases top and bottom and would probably cause a slip or eventually wear out the bar end, chain or both... and i would probably lose some drive as well with the DL's not seating in the sprocket correctly.

 

So how far is 'too, far.?

 I am running a Komatsu Zenoah G560 avs..rare as hen's teeth. I have just added a 16" .50 gauge GB bar that comes in at 18 and 3/4" in total and has a fatter belly and longer by 3/4" than the Oregon 16".

 

 The recommended 66DL in 325 or 60DL in 3/8 will be too short a chain, by how many links I don't know. I'll need to get a hold of a couple of lengths of .50 gauge and see where we are at.

 

I'm guessing around 68DL in .325 and 62 in 3.8... 'Guessing, certainly not ordering one until I find out for sure.

 

Hence the reason i'm asking how far back near the sprocket is too far back.

Think I have it sussed.

 

8 Drive links to spare on the original 18" bar with 72 DL's, When I lay the new 16"GB bar over the top I'm counting 12 Drive links spare. So from that, I have concluded I need a 68 drive link .325 chain instead of the 66 Drive links per Zenoah-Oregon specs.
