When i did mine i drained down the ram and cut the end off wiped any oil away, ground the end of the cylinder and the end cap then welded round you prob want a pretty grunty welder, i used a 3 phase mig but you could use something else, reminds me i must get it painted at some point, good splitter though especially like the two speed, have you ever found anything to stop it ?

No found it to take anything I throw at it I am having it repaired by a professional welder he will mig weld it  I want to go onto billets and season them in the bundle then log them up as I sell them  that's why I went for this splitter
