Shearing the "sheep"!

Last Winter I had a willow felled, ended up with a main trunk about 8' high which I'm intending to keep as a pollard:

Despite daring to think that the drastic pruning had actually killed it (a willow, can you imagine?), eventually some tiny shoots started appearing.

 

Seemingly overnight, because I hadn't notice it before, it's suddenly turned into Cousin It:

A few minutes with a hedge trimmer gave me the rough shape that I'm after but I fear I might be fighting a losing battle...
