NPTC training course price/quality?

Nice one,

Just wondering about how long certain NPTC units should take to pass and how much is reasonable to be charged for one. Im looking to do CS39, one training provider charges around £420 for 3 days of training and the assessment, whereas in contrast to this, another will charge £220 for 1 day of training and another day for the assessement. Does it really take 4 expensive days to get this ticket? or is it much more reasonable to do it all in 2 days for half the price? :confused1:

Cheers everyone

Including the assessment in both prices its £420 at one location and £220 at another. How long should it realistically take to be trained in CS39 to pass the assessment? Im more than willing to pay the extra dosh if it really will be reflected in higher quality training, im just concerned that someone, somewhere is taking the piss more than anything.

I'm guessing it depends on how much you know already. If you've been in the game a while and learnt from a good climber then you in theory could just do the assessment. However one day might just give you the polish for assessment.

If you've never tied a prussik before in your life you ain't gona learn it in a day.

Most Training providers that I have worked for offer 2 days training and then assess on the third day. If you are an experience climber the training could be done in one day. The assessment should'nt take more than 3 hrs but it would depend on the tree to be climbed. I did one yesterday on a mature oak that took 2. The cost of training and assessment varies massively. From around £250-£500 for the training and from £90 - £180 for the assessment. My advice is to shop round all over the uk if you need to. We had some guys come down from Inverness to Suffolk as the could'nt either get a course near them or when they did it was too expensive

Hope this helps
