Oil for small engine

I use 10w-30 in my small engines IAW the manufacturers recomended grade. I have a Grillo 'walking tractor' which takes 10w-40.

I use synthetic oil, but semi synthetic oil would be fine, its important to change oil at recommended interval as there is no oil filter with most small engines.

What oil do yo use? I read a comment that said don't use the bike 4-stroke oils but I can't find anything that's 10w-40 that's aimed at garden machinery.

Can anyone elaborate on this.

I bought some racing bike oil from Halfords recently for a 13hp SG as it was the only 10w30 that they did.

I'm now worried that I shouldn't be using it.
