Unfortunately I didn't take a cross-section of the actual bracket. The entire underside was teaming with life and frankly I felt a little regretful I had the bracket torn off, so I didn't want to then cut it in half further and just placed it back by the tree.

My gut was australe, given the applanatum I have seen are typically less 'beefy' around the margins and aren't usually so absurdly close to the base (as well as being more saucer-like, particularly on larger brackets), though having seen the below scenario with a mature ash today (G. applanatum), I'm not so sure.

If I'm truly honest, the distinct 'ribbing' around the margins of the desiccated bracket put me off suggesting it was G. applanatum.
