Hi, Just wondering if anyone can give an idea of what this could be? And if there's a possibility it could be a type of phytophthora? For context....we have a very large maple tree approx 5m away from this tree, (not rooted on our land but it hangs over) which since last Summer has rapidly declined to the point it is now dead. We had an arboriculturist out who's opinion was that it was likely phytophthora and also had evidence of a secondary honey fungus infection. We are really struggling to get the ministry of defence to remove it and are now worried for the health of other plants in our garden including this one which was previously fine. And also the other dozens of trees in the area! Any opinions would be most welcome. Thanks, Alice

Hi there, Has anyone had experience killing Larch standing to deal with Phytophthora - or know of any research on doing this? What affect does it have on timber? How long will the timber last standing before rot sets in? Does it work First time? Will trees flush again in Spring? What is best product to use? Roundup BioActiv (Agricultural), or Tree&stump killer, or something else? My understanding is 3 cut marks, or drill holes 1.2m above ground & 2ml of Roundup in holes. Do this in October and the poison will be drawn down into root system with the retreating sap. Not a nice topic - but I've got a seriously crowded wood & think this might be a good way to achieve the PHN by spring. Thanks for the advice.

Phytophthora lateralis survey You don't need to be an AA member to get involved. If you have found any lawson cypress (not leylandii) that are looking a bit sick can you provide some details on this survey? There are links on the AA website for more information on the disease. If you have already removed the diseased trees you can still report them as we are attempting to find out where the disease is. Tell your friends - it will be open until the end of March 2015. Thanks!
