  1. Full-time, 3 month fixed term contract, based in Edinburgh. Salary £22,105 plus civil service pension, generous holiday entitlement and other benefits. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a world leading botanical institute and international visitor attraction taking positive action for plants and people; from local communities across Scotland, to more than 40 countries around the world. Our four Scottish gardens – Benmore, Dawyck, Logan and ‘The Botanics’ in Edinburgh – attract over a million visitors every year. Together, these gardens comprise one of the richest plant collections on earth. Arboriculture is a rewarding career for many with arborists managing trees for their benefits and values in diverse rural and urban locations. This can involve undertaking aerial work such as pruning and felling, or work from the ground such as planting, or undertaking tree inspections. We are excited to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person with an interest in trees and the outdoors to take on a 3-month arborist traineeship. This could suit someone who has undertaken some training in horticulture and/or wants to use transferable skills and pursue a career in Arboriculture. You will receive practical experience working with the team at RBGE in a supportive, educational, environment and this will be complemented with competency training and certification. Gaining this competency qualification increases what you can do in the workplace and improves employability on completion of the traineeship. Whilst the job on one hand can be physically demanding and involve work outdoors in all kinds of weather, it also requires a great deal of knowledge and understanding. There is great potential for personal growth both in the short and long term. Careers in arboriculture can be very rewarding, offering a sense of purpose and a connection with the living world. The value of trees in an era of climate change and biodiversity loss is more widely recognised than ever. You will receive 25 days of annual leave (pro-rated) plus a generous public holiday entitlement. To apply please email [email protected] with a personal statement of no more than 2 pages long which should: Tell us about you Tell us about your interest in trees Include information about any previous work experience you have Explain why you would like to take on an Arborist traineeship at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Full Job Description and details on how to apply available at Vacancies | Working Here | What We Do WWW.RBGE.ORG.UK Applications close at 5pm January 5th.
