My Greenmech CS100 is 6 yo and been very reliable until Saturday when it was chucking out lots of white smoke. While searching for some help I found a previous article in these forums which helped me down the road of fault finding.
And as usual it’s probably operator error by me! Seems there’s a common problem with engines having a fuel tank above the carb where if you don’t shut off the fuel valve when moving the machine, it can make its way into the oil. The route is via the carb which when the machine is moved, bounces allowing fuel through the inlet manifold to the cylinders and down past the rings into the sump, mixing with the oil. That presumably gives an overfilled oil situation and the smoke.
The fact I’d filled the fuel tank just before would have added to the downward pressure.
So my bad for not using the shut off valve. If anyone had more info on this or a view on whether is likely I’d be grateful.
in the meantime, new oil and filter to come and I’ll try again.
