Thanks Paul. Good to know i'm just over thinking it. I was thinking all these wounds can't be good for the tree. I'll tidy it up a bit more and move on with my life Cheers

Hi all, I've just had a tree conditions report carried out on the 100 or so trees on my property. A few have dense epicormic growth around the base which prevented a full and proper inspection and have therefore been recommended to have the epicormic growth removed. I began on a Lime today (Tilia Europaea) which had extremely dense growth and needed cut back in the first instance just to get in close to make final cuts. Once I had it cleared it became apparent the the vast majority of the growth appeared to be coming from below ground level. See pic. I've taken a step back for now to seek advice on how I should proceed before moving onto similar trees. Unsure if I should be clearing away some earth to expose the source of each growth to make a final clean cut. Leaving exposed wounds, if i cleared to ground level, doesn't seem right either. Maybe I'm over thinking it (usually the case) or maybe I've screwed up. Either way I'm just looking to do the right thing by the tree and would rather make a mistake on one than the dozen or so I have yet to do Many thanks
