Hi all, we've got 3 trees in our garden about 30 meters from our house, our house is surrounded by flat fields in Lincolnshire so very exposed to high winds from all directions. The trees are 1 birch, 2 poplar ( I think from trying to identify ) all about 40 feet high. Would it be ok to have the trees topped & trimmed to reduce the amount of wind hitting them, what time of year, & roughly how much to take off the top/sides ? I will be employing a tree surgeon to do the job (Done some tree trimming in the past but 40 feet is way, way too high for me ) but would be good to get some info first, most are good, but some cowboys out there. Any help appreciated

Thanks for the info, the chain fitted isn't Oregon, the oiler is working fine, chain is sharpened, so guessing it's the crap chain fitted.

Yep, used petrol chainsaws years ago, I always check chain tension is correct ( not too tight or loose ) before use. No signs of wear to sprocket. I think i'll take the electric chainsaw to a service/parts shop ( any recommendations around Spalding or Boston Linc's ) & get a decent correct chain, then can always buy more online in the future.

Thanks, but the chain after initial stretch keeps stretching during use to the point it wants to jump/snatch, checked tensioner isn't moving.

Hi all, got a disability with left hand, sometimes have to cut fire wood up to about 1foot wide wood logs. I got a sovereign 1800 electric chainsaw a few years ago, the saw is surprisingly powerful & capable of cutting decent wood, but is manageable with my disability for short times. The only problem I've got is the chains keep stretching , the oiler is working & always topped up & chain is sharpened. Been told by a friend that the chains i've been buying aren't up to the job & that I need a 'chippa chain' (not brand name, think he means a more heavy duty, rough cut chain ) Any advice/ recommendations/ help would be appreciated. yep, thankfully the chimney's on outside of the wall & was lined with terracotta in good condition, had a bit of a fight getting such an old wood burner certified ( no serial numbers ), think Hetas certificate & carbon monoxide/ smoke alarms are a must.

Hi all, i'm a newbie to this forum, lived in countryside for most of my life, don't have a gas supply, electric is unreliable at best, the only heating we have is an old cheap half knackered cast iron wood burner that I restored, fitted then got certified many years ago. please don't think we're all well off chav's with wood burners just because their fashionable (know there's loads of them ) , some of us are genuine normally people who need a bit of help with firewood. I don't mean any offence by this post but thought it was important. Thanks, Herby

The wood burner is our only heating in our house, so any wood would be really appreciated. We've got a wide drive at front of house, logs/stumps etc can be tipped easily, anything except leylandii/Cyprus/conifer.
