  1. Hi all I've made a video which shows the cavity a bit better than the photos (not the best quality unfortunately...). Perhaps this helps you assess how serious/dangerous it is. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qTGhY5YGb5kFwJw5Lnaj7c-lYDOS-X6F/edit Thanks Helene
  2. It would hit our shed and terrace in our garden, and also our neighbour's gardens. Also at the back there are allotments so would do some damage there too, depending on the direction it would fall. Don't think it would hit any houses though. But always risky for anyone around it... I haven't seen any fungi but will double check tomorrow in day light. Might even do a little video! Another question... What kind of price do you think is reasonable for removing a tree of that size? So far I've had 3 approximate quotes (one only based on photos), between £800 and £1800 😑 My house is semi-detached and access would be done by the side through a gate.
  3. Thanks for all your replies. Regarding the tree specie, I’m not an expert but I used an app that suggested Sycamore maple based on the leaves (see photo below). I had a second tree surgeon around who suggested removing was the best way forward. He did mention about pollarding as an alternative but told me if it was in his garden he’d remove it. I’m based in Chester, let me know if anyone qualified is nearby that could give an opinion (I don’t have anyone qualified that I know, hence checkatrade). The first person did write me an email (for free!) confirming the need to remove. The second suggested writing a report but for a fee. So I used the email in the TPO application, and I am hoping the tree officer would be able to recommend the best course of action. Those trees are one of the reasons we bought the house (very recently) so I’d rather keep it, but I guess safety first!
  4. Ok this makes sense, I realise it is difficult with photos only! Will try to get someone in for second opinion. The officer from the council would also need to be giving their own approval that it is required, so will start an application in parallel.
  5. Hello, Thanks for your answer. Found them through checkatrade and below are the qualifications mentioned. what do you mean by this? The tree seems to be dealing with the problem as it sees fit
  6. Hello I have a maple tree (20-30m tall) that is hollow with apparent decay. Had a tree surgeon who said it’s very dangerous, at risk of falling and need removing asap. Just after further advice, whether you agree or not based on the photos. Should specify that the tree is under a TPO so would need to do an application for any work required… Thanks :) Helene
