Why do you need professional indemnity insurance?
I had professional indemnity in a previous consultancy based business so is something I would naturally explore at the start. Great if I don't need as no point adding unnecessary overhead. Just need to understand what I will need to make sure my customers, freelancers and myself are covered so any pointers greatly appreciated.

Looking to set up a small local Garden maintenance business which will carry out lawn mowing, garden clearance, hedge cutting and low-level chainsaw work. Any opportunities which require a proper qualified arborist, I shall pass to professional friends. In setting up this business I will need professional indemnity, public liability etc and would like to understand where are the best places to go for this sort of product. Also would like to understand what, if any, courses/training are out there for people looking to enter this line of work?

Probably be fine to move now if you take at least 50cm radius rootball, which is heavy enough, you'll appreciate a mini digger to help you. Mild wet weather will help, don't bother if it's hot and dry.
Otherwise, December to March, try and disturb the little roots as much as possible but you'd do it by hand easily enough.
After moving it, feed and mulch with seaweed and woodchip, and just fricking drown that thing.
Edit
And give it a bit of a haircut too.
Regarding a haircut, do I reduce the height of the tree and if so, by how much or is it more about reducing the number of offshoots from the main stem? (which hopefully one day will be a trunk)

Have an island on a river that can be (not legally) accessed from public land opposite. Occasionally, the local yute wade across to the island and causing minor damage to property, and outbuildings. When I bought the property, the island itself was surrounded in barbwire and there is still some of that around. If I can't use barbwire, do I have to get rid of the legacy stuff?
-
Please could somebody advise where I could go to find out about the use of barbed wire to fence off land to stop people trespassing onto?

I believe it's Alder

Please could somebody help advise with the following dying sapling. This was planted a couple of months ago, and there is life in the cambium up to the point indicated and above it is dead! Just wondering if I should leave or trim the dead part off or is there something else I need to be aware of? The sapling came from a bunch of shoots that I cut away from a root and it grew a reasonable root ball when stuck in water for a year prior to planting (others from the same group have successfully taken)

Well if you can't, they can go on the shelf alongside my chocolate teapot!

Extra protein, add them to your stews
Methinks they would be better than maggots for catching fish!

Does anybody know if there is any information out there regarding how much girth tree limbs could put on each year?

Similar problem so ended up buying the stihl tape measure which I find is brilliant. Though the pointy bit that sticks in wood can be a bit dangerous on the retrieve!

I have sold a few boards....not as many as you have.
Ebay - can take a while. Plenty of idiots asking questions with no real desire to purchase. Difficult to place in the correct section unless you pay more for multiple inserts.
Gumtree - Same except no fees and limited audience.Timber Market
TIMBERMARKET.CO.UKTried these but not a lot of takeup yet.
Don't do facebook and so no comment.
Comes back to ebay. It's a nuisance and yet a global go-to for stuff. Just need to put it in the right section. Get your title right so you get maximum exposure on any search, good pictures and an accurate description and wait...
Best of luck.
Sound advice so many thanks. Interested in your comment about putting the boards in the right section on eBay. Any pointers would be appreciated

If your going to plant willow for biomass may as well imo try & source some rods of the biomass cultivars as theese specially breed biomass willows grow alot more rapidly than most normal ones.
Some are actually illegal to self propergate though 😏
Mulch or black plastic really helps rapid establishment
Would the mulch/black plastic help with any rod (assume that's what the whips are also know as?) planted in a hostile environment (bind weed, nettles et cetera)?
do you know what the illegal ones are called?🤫

Defiantly plant trees, but 2 acres isn't a huge amount of ground to supply a log boiler.
Might be better using some of the space to make access and stacking space for artic timber wagons (if you don't have already), buy in a load, then hire a processor for a couple of days.
And build a big log shed!
What is an arctic timber wagon? I guess by processor do you mean something the chip/process the Timber? The reality is I will be burning 50cm logs in the boiler
