  1. Hi, This is my question: is it possible to cause a tree to straighten ever so slightly simply by cutting lots of branches on the leaning side? This in theory would cause a counter-weight with the other side still full of branches and would lead to the tree straightening. Does that seem plausible? I'm guessing a photo would be useful and if so, I'll go there (it's in another garden) and take one. But just in theory, is this likely to happen? Full story....we have a cherry tree which is leaning on the wall of the neighbor and is causing the tiles on the top of the wall to break. We've had three different arborists take a look and the first two told us it needs to be cut down entirely while the 3rd told us that it would be enough to cut the branches leaning on the neighbors side to cause a weight imbalance with the branches on the other side, which would then straighten the tree enough so that it no longer leans on the wall. For the back story, this is the house my brother and I inherited from our parents and he would very strongly want to keep the tree if possible. I too of course but with the first two having said it should be removed, I favor that option while my brother wants to go with the other option which I'm not sure sounds realistic, i.e. my question here in this forum. I wasn't there when the 3rd arborist came but the way I imagine it, my brother told him what the other two arborists told him and how much he wants to keep the tree so the guy told my brother what he wanted to hear to get the job. Thanks in advance!
