  1. I’ll check flu tomorrow. However, when it works it works great.
  2. Not for years but it hasn’t been used since it’s been done more than 6 times
  3. Ok, so blocked off 99% of grate holes to effectively turn it from multi fuel to wood only. However, if I close the bottom vent fire goes out. Doesn’t work with top vent only? weirdly, it can still go out and have to quickly open a window despite blocking off room intake and connecting pipe to external vent? This is a 3in pipe that runs down from stove and under the floor for about 10ft. as I write it’s running really well with both vents fully open and window closed. Maybe the hotter it gets it ‘sucks’ air through the long pipe ? Could possibly shorten it considerably if that would help? hell of a job lighting tonight . I know this was about oak but couldn’t even get kindling to catch which didn’t before with in multi fuel mode and bottom vent open. going to look at stove diagrams to see how air flows. Can’t guarantee top vent is opening as unlike bottom it’s not visible can say that at the moment oak is burning great?
  4. That was my idea! On way to have a piece of steel fabricated to cover 99% of holes. I’ll report back cheers all
  5. As someone has mentioned, yes it’s a multi stove so bottom is a grate and embers fall through. a friend says he puts a bed of coal down first? but I’ve read not to mix fuel?
  6. They do burst into flames initially then die off so possibly wet in the middle
  7. Looks like my research failed. Annoyingly I had to wait weeks to get oak over birch ..lol i do notice smaller pieces are better but unfortunately most are big to huge. what’s the best way to split them down? It’s impossible with an axe and the drill attachments don’t get good reviews?
  8. Bought kiln dried oak logs as supposed to last longer but it’s really hard to get them to stay alight? top down lighting and loads of oxygen, especially since I added an external direct vent, and softwood burns furiously. But when kindle is gone the logs go out and I have to add loads more kindle, I’m going through more of this than oak…lol. all logs show moister of no more than 10% but maybe more in the centre thanks edit…forget to say both top and bottom vents are permanently fully open!
  9. I have a separate good quality temperature sensor and it agrees with the cheap thermostat 🤷🏼‍♂️
  10. Nope, wood is bone dry loveley heat off stove too 🤷🏼‍♂️ suppose I shouldn’t complain but OCD you know 😂 single skin flue too
  11. My flue stat never shows more than 90 degrees? nowhere near the desired range? have a probe thermostat and glass is a lot hotter but does coincide the cheap magnetic flue stat so fan not spinning very fast although the top is only slightly lower than flue? ideas?
  12. How hard would it be to 'swing' this stove so it’s on the right of the flue exit? If it needs dismantling is the flue attached to the roof? thanks
  13. Really impressed with Homefire Heat Logs. Tried these alongside hardwood logs with virtually no moister. Bought a meter to check them…lol very consistent burn nd wife loves the smell too. only problem is I’m not getting as long a burn as others. Even if I close all vents! was going to examine tomorrow when cool to try and see why they don’t close completely cheers guys
  14. What about artificial logs? Read they burn longer and at reduced heat?
  15. New to wood burning stove. want to use all day and not have to keep adding wood. currently burning cheap softwood from supermarket but it needs constant replenishing and is too hot. idealy need something that burns longer with less heat thanks
