Hi @shavey,
A larger bar and chain might be a good idea.
What are the exact parameters and gauges for the bar sizes so it fits the drive sprocket?
Thanks for the advice.

Hi there,
you chaps last year helped me out hugely getting my 123 repaired. There is a local tree that fell down, its stupidly enourmous and its on private land crashing through two back gardens. There is a legal issue and its been going on for months. everybody just wants the tree to vanish. I said i would help if i could.
Its a poplar tree
I am just wondering what size bar i could go up to on a dolmar 123 could go up to on a bar and chain, its certainly got the grunt. i believe its starting to leave its power behind.
Just so we are clear, im not a pro but i live on a commercial/industrial yard and im very used to heavy equipment. so for the sake of these occasions i would feel comfortable get a 90cm saw or so. Any advice happy to take it.Edward

ah yes, someone did mention one of these to me come to think of it a while ago but it as shown to me with nearly a forty inch bar, was a bit much.
thats probably a decent thing to get though -
Hi everyone,
thanks to everyone helping me solve my sachs dolmar 123 issue, learnt a lot .
for bigger knotty logs that i will get for free and some very large downed local trees that are over three feet, i would be interested in getting a 90cc chainsaw with a shorter bar as i dont wish to wield something that dangerous. Are there any recommendations on any older saws that parts are still available for that isnt going to cost me £1000 ?
I actually found a dolmar sachs 133 which is 85 cc but finding parts is almost impossible it seems.
Thanks!

i honestly have no idea if the 122 super fits the 123, you think it would. Maybe in the future.

hi what exactly is that chainsaw? looks newer etc?

Hi Simon,
sorry ive been slammed with work, i thought i replied to you. I managed to get a broken down 123 from ebay by sheer chance. how much would you want for the 122 parts? i'll do some research and see if it fits. any model numbers on the parts would be handy
Regards
Edward

as i said i got the mix wrong, for the first time in 15 years or almost no mix in this case.
I don't keep fuel in cans for long i tend to be a heavy user when i get into the summer months then replace next year.
good to know the new saws require more frequent use. I would rather keep a dolmar going, i'm not using it every day, started on the second pull every time.

Hi,
I was given a 1982 sachs dolmar 123 about 8 years ago and it is by far the best chainsaw i have ever used. I've tended to use smaller stihls 171, 260, 280s or husqvarna 440s. All the others have died but the dolmar kept going up until about three weeks ago, somehow i got the mix wrong and sealed the piston to the block. I am kicking myself to be honest, then i killed the husqvarna 20 minutes later not realising what i had done.
i've looked on ebay for another piston etc but they are up to £200 and the picture doesn't quite match the inside design of the chainsaw, I can buy other chainsaws but i cant guarantee the condition on such an old saw.
Is there a modern day equivalent of a sachs dolmar type? Where i live there is no gas or oil, but i can get free mostly knotty wood and it does require some serious grunt to get through sometimes. I have to chop up 8 tons of wood a year to keep warm etc etc. So powerful 70cc upwards is what im used to.
Thanks!

Heavy splitting mauls
in Firewood forum
Posted
I would usually just repair my splitting maul handle, but not all handles seem to be the same for the head. cant quite get the right fit, comes loose no matter what.
Cant even buy the maul anymore. I'm after an 8lb and upwards splitting maul if anyone knows where. there seem to be some on ebay but im not conviced there the width i like, look more like splitting axes.
Hope you can help.
