They don’t though as they are probably looking at there phones, most of the general public don’t perceive trees as we do Patrick.. I know a lot of schools in the area have since been putting their care takers through tree inspection courses and still have annual surveys, so some aspects are improving.. others I won’t comment on.

Personally I think willows and poplars have no place on these sites especially mature ones, also I think Doug is on the money , well I know he is 100%..

I would add a lot more to this thread but it’s where I mostly work and on an open forum is not the place to air opinions..  I have met parents , teachers and emergency service from that incident and I don’t think you could describe how horrific that scene ended… absolute tragedy for all involved.

Hope I never have to see anything like that mate and I totally agree there’s people don’t realise how much the world is going by them now days.

Teachers aren’t there to weigh up trees, that’s the council’s  job, and they failed.

? If you had been picking your kids up from school if you had seen a tree what you thought looked hazardous would you have gone and told somebody that you think it’s a bit dodgy i think someone should have a look at it? That’s all am getting at mick I no I would even though it’s not my job Iva. That’s all am saying and am guessing you would don’t mean nothing by it but I just don’t think there is any common sense anymore no communication and so on that’s all I was getting at there is a lot of ppl what should have a duty of care.

I understand that but aren’t other people allowed to make decisions? Totally agree with you I no it’s not the same but if there was gale force winds wood you go walking through a wood? And regarding the tree couldn’t someone else have gone and got a second opinion I no I would have done mate. Lot of factors and lot of things what could have been done on that day but do agree council to blame but think things could have been handled differently I no I would of gone crazy if my to little lads had been near it I’d of layed into to school and council that’s in my op

  5. Why didn’t they just fell the tree why would you recommend further inspections? The person obviously had a suspicion it was in bad health so why take the risk FELL the Dam thing a play ground isn’t a place to take risks 😠 poor girl. Surely teachers must of thought the tree was dodgy to and why let kids play near trees in high winds it’s scandalous. 😠

    Hello Everyone,

    Asking for some honest feedback/advice.

I’m fast approaching my 45th birthday and after spending most of my life behind a desk and slowly losing the will to live, I’m seriously considering changing careers and working as an arborist. I’ve had a good look around for training (based in the South East) and there’s some good options available for comprehensive training to get me qualified as a climber.

Before I make the jump and invest in the training, I really would like some help in understanding if it’s going to be a viable move for me. Realistically, what would someone in my position be earning annually coming into this industry (as a potential employee of a company/business)?

Also, what are your views of your career and day to day. I’d especially like to hear from anyone that’s been in a similar position to me.

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you don’t mind me asking what type of job do you do behind a desk if it’s good money why change? I Love my job but I no when I come to the end of it ready to retire I no my body ain’t going to be much good and I will suffer with a lot of aches and pains later on in life do now . And at the end of the day it’s all to do with money that’s what work’s about making money but there is easy ways and hard ways to make a living. Arb work is interesting and very physical and you can make a living but in my opinion you make more working for your self. But if you are making a good living doing what your doing now and your not killing your self I’d stick to that that my honest opinion but it’s what makes you happy mate 👍

We had such an abundance of fruit this year that we just let the apples fall, having given so many away that nobody wanted any more.  However it was very important for these birds in this recent cold spell.

What are they field fare and red wings? It’s good though nice to see. They semt late this year we usually see them on the hawthorn berry’s. Great to see 👍

  8. That’s how I started my old man taught me to climb and do the job before I even went and did my climbing courses. I think it’s a good thing because I think some people once they have tried it might think it’s to much like hard work and say it’s not for them. And then they have wasted there money 💴 I think a lot of people see what we do and think I can do that watching someone who has done it for years and makes it look easy but don’t really realise how strenuous the job is. It’s not for everyone. 👍

Usual over reactions from people that rarely watch football and have never played. Ref missed a couple of fouls on sakka in the first half, but to say it was the worst referee performance ever!

Get yourself down to a Liverpool and District Sunday league game this morning,  you'll see some crackers

I can understand Sunday league mate but not at that level.

I don’t get particularly emotionally invested in  games of football, I think that makes a lot of difference in how you perceive a refs actions

There’s one thing I don’t know if I will ever see England win a tournament. I was thinking to my self last night would i rather see arsenal win the league again or England win the World Cup. Iva way if arsenal don’t win the premier league this year then that will be a right kick in the bollacks 😂

  11. 5 minutes ago, Steve Bullman said:

England did better than I predicted. Shame Kane couldn’t do one job of at least getting the ball on target. I didn’t think the ref was overly bad

Lol 😂 I don’t no what you was watching Steve lol 😂 but I do agree with you on putting the ball in the back of the net. 👍

  12. What did you ladies and gents think to the game last night? I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game where a ref has been that bad I thought he might as well have been wearing blue. How the French repeatedly chopped saka down and didn’t blow up for a fowl if it had been Messi fouled it would have Been different. Adamant the ref was being an ass because Michael Oliver refereed the Brazil 🇧🇷 game so he was getting his own back don’t know what you guys think 🤔 😞

  13. First time I went and did a days work was when the school sent you on work experience I did that for a week or however how long it was. I did that with my old man and then as no sooner as I left school I went as a groundie which led on to do more courses and climbing trees. I’m now 34 Let’s just say my path was all ready layed. I really fancied being a game keeper with me having other interests but couldn’t find a job in it so trees 🌲 it was 😆

  14. I dont think you will have a problem with applying to have the tree removed. I don’t think the council officer will argue about it being removed I’m afraid it’s had it’s day and the best option in my opinion is to be removed. You could have it reduced ie pollard to a safe  height and carry out pruning every couple of years but I think we no what will be the end result I think it’s inevitable ☠️ But like the other chaps say if you like having a tree there plant another one in its place. 👍

  15. Hi there a farm I do a bit of game keeping on put there cows to the wood this year it was during the heat wave they didn’t half clear it they cleared everything but to be fair they didn’t damage the trees but I’m guessing next year the cover will come twice as thick. I think 🤔 it would probably be a good idea to put them in just before you start felling I think come spring it will be thick with groth. Cheers thanks.
