bunch of whinging old bar stewards. if theres a cat or a dog in the house, its no for the brew anyway. tea is harder to screw up/buy cheap than coffee. usually say no anyway apart from regular and trusted customers. -

another vote for going up the left hand tree its caught in and cutting the top free. i wouldnt wanna be playing with the base yet, a twist in the top and the butt could take you out. looks like theres some cross over in the top above whats visible in the pic. id like to see higher before i venture a comment on a base cut

" didnt notice didnt care. as for the rest, my first thought would usually have gone to wondering if its someone from the council checking on tpo work or something. but inevitably most people would amble over to the watcher to ask what they want, and the answer would be "to watch and learn and maybe get a job" fairly sure the question was asked ways to try learning and increase chances of a job. sure volunteering is an option. but if you want a paid job you need to get noticed by the people who work in your area.

begin with explaining why youre turning down the suggestion of a man hanging around in the proper gear and looking eager to get stuck in? if two lads apply for a job, one sends an email, the other turns up onsite ready to get stuck in, which one are you likely to take a punt on? and from the flip side, is he looking for experience of applying for jobs or looking for opportunity to watch people at work?

you mean as opposed to sitting at home sending emails to people that are out at work and hoping one invites a random lad to come and work? watch tv, or watch climbers at work. which sounds like the better plan, if hes offering to work for free why not watch for free?

assuming you have free time and ppe, drive round your local area wearing your ppe listening for the sound of chainsaws till you find someone doing some big tree work, then sit on your car bonnet and watch. youll learn and potentially someone will suggest you help out.

little bit. ask them to glue some back on. just at a rough guess i would have said ill take the right hand side up roughly following the outside of the conifer and match the left hand side, then see if i can take a couple of foot off the top but also your photos are from different places and dont show consistency but again it depends on what the request was for -
i would have said ash, and judging by that pic its got quite a bush between the legs

how much management is actually needed of an ancient woodland that we assume has been there for hundreds of years already? isnt it just picking up the dead bits and cutting anything thats fallen hanging or is gonna fall? and no i dont have a damn clue cos its totally not my area.
