My neighbour cut down a couple of trees growing close to our fence last week as well as killed off a rampant Clematis that was smothering the trees surrounding. It has opened up our garden nicely, but has left a cherry tree somewhat exposed as a very tall, slender tree (with a tangled mess of dying Clematis!).
You can see the tree in the photos (I've drawn around the outline of the tree to show the current shape and size). It's grown pretty rapidly in the past 3 years but mostly upwards as it has always been exposed to the North and East, but sheltered from the South and West by the trees growing behind the fence.
I'd prefer to have it about half it's current height but don't want it to grow outwards too much over the lawn and flowerbeds. I'm guessing it will always tend to grow more towards the South and West to fill in that gap a bit more.
Any advice on how to tackle this much appreciated. Happy to take more close-up pics to show where the main trunks/limbs are if that would help
