  1. You have confirmed my fears but in my mind a bigger digger will be a bit more of a pain in the arse with weights, we have to drive past a VOSA weigh bridge most days. In what way was it significant; speed, size of logs/brash piles you were able to move? I was surprised by how small the grab opened but then my reference point is someone else's timber crane and grab on an 8tone machine.
  2. ….We all wish we had a bigger one? I’m currently looking at purchasing an arb digger(yanmar 19vt). This is my first dalliance with diggers and have speced it with dual services and a rotator grab, controls on the joysticks and all that. my question; will I immediately want a bigger one? There’s plenty of reasons for a the 1.9, it’s weight is preferable for staying on the right side of the law l, not horsing the arse out of the trucks and think it will lend its self to be more use on a variety of domestic and commercial sites. A lot of our work is domestic where access and space is never an issue. Hoping to use it for stacking brash, moving logs and doing more of the donkey work, feeding a 8 inch tracked chipper; maybe even some standard digger work on the side. We’ve had a larger digger in recently and it was striking to see how effective it is with large quantities of brash and I want in on the action albeit on a smaller scale. Those that have a 1.9 how many times have you wished for more girth? I’ve had a little read through the arb digger thread and got super lost… Thoughts and considerations appreciated.

  4. I wasn’t impressed because it just seemed like the chipper that I’d just traded in but as soon as we got to some more chunky stuff it all made sense.
  5. I’ve ended up with the Timberwolf 8 inch petrol. My old 230 was starting to cost me money and after a week of arsing around with it and numerous electrical issues, it dying in the middle of a job I rang the local dealer and they couldn’t supply a 6 inch machine for 3 months. They had this machine in the yard so I went and swapped. Initially I wasn’t that impressed by it and thought it be a thirsty beast but having lived with it for the passed few months I’ve really grown to like it, maybe love it. If your running it flat out all day chipping at capacity you will notice the fuel consumption but in an average week, I’ve not noticed it to be honest. I was running white diesel in the old chipper so the costs are pretty much comparable. In short, it’s a great machine, thirsty but great.
  6. I’m not but the guys who help out are but that can be sorted if the right machine came along.
  7. That’s good to know. What’s the dealer network like with Greenmech. I’ve been slightly spoilt as I can get Timberwolf parts fairly close by or Spectrum plant seem pretty great for next day on almost everything. I’ll have to arrange a demo of the 165. Out of interest, why are you chopping it in?
  8. It’s the issues I’m interested in.... the Diesel engine wants for nothing
  9. Thanks for the reply. I’m not so keen on going for a Forst, more so from the user aspect. I just don’t want the new chipper to be a poor emulation of the one I already have.
  10. I’m in the market to replace a TW230 and having made a few calls today I have found out that new ones have become as rare as rocking horse poop. I was hoping for a straight swap for a new machine but it turns out they have all been sold or there’s a a major back log due to the pandemic. The upshot of it is that the machine that I’m likely to end up with are the new “Diet Petrol” or “Fat Free Diesel” breed. I’m not adversed to the idea but for some reason I have hesitation on getting one. So with that in mind, is anyone running a 6 inch petrol chipper and if so, how are they getting on with it? How does it compare to the current diesel machines both economy and efficiency? I’ve seen a lot of Forst petrol chippers but not many Timberwolfs and know very little about the Greenmech petrol machines. Cheers, Chris
