Thanks Dan - it’s a shame but useful to know what’s happening!

Hi - hoping for some help, have recently moved into this house and have a blossom tree (not sure exact type - no fruit) that has peeling bark with an odd pattern on the wood underneath, wondering if anyone here knows what it is and what treatment I’ll need to get, pics attached Thanks, Brett
