  2. I'm 31 from Maidstone in mid Kent.  A couple of years ago I undertook training to gain my Cs30/31, Cs38/39 wood chipper and stump grinder at Kings wood Training. Due to one thing or another I haven’t been able to make the jump into the Arb world as of yet. Fortunately my circumstances have changed and now is the right time for me to start. Understanding that I have limited experience in this field I would like to start from the ground up to learn to learn all aspect of the trade with the intention to climb one day.  looking for permanent full time work. I have boots trouser and helmet.

    Thanks

  7. I see lots of threads of people working aborad. is this short term or long term?

Is it possible to move me and the family to new newzealand permanantly as an arborsit? and is so what experience would be needed.

moving into this carreer and think of this as a future option

    thanks

  8. hi there ive just bought some meindl airstream rock boots for my upcoming course at kingswood. i just looked at the manadatory ppe list and noticed the boots have to be EN 17249 where as the airstreams are EN 20345. whats the different in this?

    thanks

  9. Hi there I'm totally new to the industry.  I was planning on doing the 4 week course at Kingswood in next couple of months.

How stable is work at the moment? And is full time year round employment hard to come by?

Im currently working in a warehouse that pays well for the sort of work it is. Around 28k. But don't fancy doing it for the next 40 years.

  10. cheers mate not excatly in a high paying job now so should be all good.

Im literatly a stone throws away from east malling research centre and never knew they did courses i will check them out. im hoping to be completed by april latest.

  11. Alright guys.

Im from 28 and from Maidstone kent.

I am going to take a 4 week course at kingswood at the beginning of next year to gain some tickets. 30/31 38/39 wood chipper and stump grinder.

My question is im completley new to this industry do you think this is the right course for me?

And if i do pass it, how hard would it be to gain permanent employment as i will lack experience.( I know i wont be a climber stright away and will have to start at the bottom).

    Thanks

I can't say I agree with that statement, although you will hear it said by a lot of people within the industry that 'climbing is a young mans game' (general by those who did once climb but now no longer do).

Tree climbing and tree surgery used to be a lot about physical grunt, dragging your self up trees and carrying large loads to the chipper by hand but now if you embrace new techniques and equipment you can work smart without screwing your body and therefore there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to keep working on site till you retire.

So there is no reason that being over 30 would mean no one would want to employ you, one of my best climbers is well over 40.

That said tree climbers are normal light weight and as fit as a fiddle but even if you not right now, with the right attitude and perseverance you soon will be.

Sounds like sour grapes from someone who couldn't make it in the industry to me (very judgmental of me) or maybe they were just having a bad day.

I'd be a little worried about spending £3000 with someone who is already talking down your ambitions before you have even started the course.
Surely if they are a good instructor, they should be confident that they will set you on the path to becoming a decent arborist.

It's surprising because I've heard nothing but good things about Kingswood.

I'd advise you to talk to them again, ask them why they said that?
Perhaps you should look at other training providers.
Maybe someone like Tony Derbyshire, who like me is a little north of 30 and might be more suited to help start you on your new career path.

    Just my thoughts and opinions.
I wish you the best of luck.
    Regards Neil

Sorry the confusion the theory course is a separate place than the Kingswood.
