Sorry i tryed to upload a photo but it was playing up. Basicly ive got a rock climbing harness which has got an anchor point for the two leg straps and a anchor point for the waist strap. Linked together with a strap apantly you cant anchor too. Your ment to for rock climbing tie a fig of 8 knot though these two anchor points but for climbing a tree that isnt pratical because ive got to disconect and reconect regularly. There isnt enough room to fit two karabiners though these so what ive done its put one karabiners though both anchor points and then daisy chained a second one onto that one to attach my ropes.

It would of been easyer to explane if the picture would have loaded up.

Only other thing i can thing todo is one fig of 8 tieded to the harness and then a 2nd fig of 8 to attach my karabiners on wih my ropes.

Or is there a better way of going around it?

Right ive got all my gear together now todo this. Just one quick qwestion before i go up tomorrow. Im stuggling for room to clips 2 karabiner into my rock climbing harness so ive done this. Is it safe to use a karabiner clipped onto another karabiner?

Fig 8 on a bight is fine mate, it's what I learned on.

I don't think you're making the right choice doing it yourself, but you ride a track bike so you must be a nutcase anyway, wayyyy more dangerous than climbing trees.

I've recovered a couple of drones from trees, and they were well out on the tips, easy climbs till the last ten feet.

If you're determined to do it yourself I'd get a pro in first time out and trade footage for fees like Steve suggested.

You'll learn far more seeing him do it/climbing with him than you will from books and vids.

Yeah I am alittle worryed about that. I think im going to take a telescopic pole up with me so i can just pop it out of the tree once i get fairly close.

The way i see it is i might stuggle my bollucks off and it might take me a while but as long as im always clipped in safety it "should" be inpossible to kill myself lol

If its as termination knots then double figure 8 on mainline is fine but a bit bulky on the lanyard.

What hitch are you using to ascend on and as lanyard adjuster?

I was just going to use a prusik knot on both as thats what ive seen in all the videos so far and looks fairly simple todo?

Heres a potential silly question but to get back down is it ok todo just do the same as you do to go up but in reverse. As in take the tention up and then slide the prusik down and repeat or is there another knot you need to rig up?

get it over the top branch, tie around your waste, and tie the other end to your mate bikes, and then get him to drive forward until you can reach it, then get him to reverse!

Oh behave. Ive brought a wild country rock climbing harness for £30 and due to this tread a proper arbroist rope for £55. 4 Carabiners for £20. 2 Prussik Loop for £20 So im all in for £120. Thank you for your advice on the rope though youve been so helpfull.

Am i ok to use double figure of 8s on my main line and lanyard or is there a better knot to use?

Would a quad copter be strong enough to carry a throwbag and trailing line? Do they make a remote release mechanism? Could be the next big thing in arb access set-up.

Thing is, you're asking for climbing advice on a forum populated majorly by climbers. We're not exactly gonna say "yeah that 2nd hand dynamic line will be fine, we just buy the expensive stuff 'cos we're flash".

 

You won't be able to buy an appropriate climbing kit for less than the drone is worth, so you're options are take Steve's advice, or stop flying into trees.

Yer i apperciate that hence why i asked. A properly spec'd rope it is. Unfortunately paying somone else wouldnt work out if i cant get it back the same day because rain would kill alot of the electronics. I think i can put a basic but safe, possibly slightly uncomfortable climbing kit together for £120. Not flying into trees isnt an option

Ill invest in 25m of new proper arborist rope if thats whats required as a minimum.

I used to reguarly climb free style when i was younger. I know the dangours involved so been strapped in is enough for me to feel safe

So any 11-13mm climbing rope in good condtion should do the trick?

Ok sound. Im glad i asked. I know nothink about climbing trees safely apart from free style climbing in the park when i was a kid. My mates will most lightly be there but i wouldn't trust them to have any helpfull input. Ive watched youtube vids of one line with a prussik frction knock and a 2nd safty line which is what i was planning to use.

I will be using the rope over a branch and then a friction knot. Pull up move friction knot up style of climbing

The problem is its on a farmers field. And the bits left on it that cant be damaged buy water are only worth £90. £250 if the electrics arnt damaged buy water. Then if it happens a handfull of times paying a man £50 a pop to get it down soon adds up. It would just be more convenient to have the gear at hand to get them back same day before it rains?

Would standard "climbing rope" be upto the job?

Hello. Im new here.

Unfortunately i probably wont be bringing much to your forum but im hoping some of you wont mind answering a few little questions for me. Ive done lots of googling and watching videos on youtube so ive gained abit of knowledge.

Basicly ive got my FPV racing quadcopter stuck at the top of a 90 foot plus tree. Ive tried everything to get it down and now the only option is to climb it. I tried climbing it with a ladder but it stunk of a trip to A&E so now im trying to do it more safely.

Im trying todo this as cheaply as possible as my gear will only be used when one of our quadcopters gets stuck in a tree so hopefully only a handful of times.

Ive got a rock climbing harness but when comes to the rope im stuggling to pick which to buy. Ive worked out that tree climbing and rock climbing rope is different. But the proper arborist rope seems alot more exspensive.

Would it be dangerous to use normal climbing rope not designed for trees? It will only be used a handful of times but im not sure how much they will be affected buy the friction of sliding over a branch etc. Proper arborist rope designed for daily use seems like overkill.

If anyone could point me in the direction of the cheapest but still safe rope i can buy, i'd be grateful. I only need around 20 meters.
