    One another thing that confuses me is that this picture says max 25cm/10" bar... while many sellers state this has 12" bar. Are there more version of this saw? I know there are 3/8" ad 1/4" - do they differ in max bar length? I know its subject to change, but still confusing.

    The US and non-US versions (and certifications) usually differ, hence the differences in certified bar manufacturers and lenghts as there are some differences in requirements and testing procedures.

    Originally this chainsaw was designed around A4S chain hence it performs the best with narrow gauge 1/4".

    The 3/8" laminated Tsumura is somewhat  "budget" version.

    Here are the official sizes from catalogue (20cm is 8", 25cm is 10"):

  2. Butterfly type carburettor L controlled ports (3 little ones) are always influencing engine work.

    At idle usually the closest hole to the engine is open, but starting from acceleration process and up to WOT it sprays fuel from all 3 L ports happier than a race winner sprays champagne.

    L adjustment always has influence on all RPM range. It is just felt differently on different engines, depending on many factors.

    Just like all Echos though I think the high power and low weight comes at a slight reduction in durability, they seem a bit flimsier with thinner handles etc.

     

    There is not much extra simplicity in comparison except there is one less solenoid block, wire loom and extra power generating unit.

    This saves some ~100 grams alone.

    The lower weight comes from that and from the engine/crankcase design.

    Actually the push-pull pre-filtration system and oil expansion chambers are a bit more advanced than those found on competitor models so except auto-tune there isn't much where is less techy.

    Any modern chainsaw model (except those with shady origin) has to pass exactly the same ISO tests for loads from all sides and dropping, so the durability part of the story is a bit of an urban myth.

    550XP says 859, but that's apples to oranges as it's major difference in ccs and ultra-major in weight especially if you add the UL Sugi bar which comes stock.

    Hell, it's even cheaper than 540iXP.

    MS 241 from the same class is 864 so it's hard to understand where you want the titanium :)

    Probably you just don't need 40cc class saw :D

    I received no further reply until several weeks later which said they were looking at their range for spring 2023, but gave no further detail.

     

    By that time however I had invested in the new 40v Makita blower with batteries and charger, but would probably have waited on the Echo if they could have given me any sort of encouragement whatsoever.

     

    I thought it was very poor communication, at best!

     

     

    Understandable.
    Yet US normally has generally different products and even average American user will normally have different preferences (see lawnmowers, hedge trimmers and even chainsaws of any manufacturer).

    UK has more in common with Europe so it’s understandable the range and even safety requirements for double insulation is different.

    Some of those you see on YouTube in US got there from UK, actually :)

    And the most shown one was smuggled to US from Germany.

    I also see northeast side of Europe selling them for a while already.

    And it’s hard to forget all the supply mess, especially when other manufacturers wouldn’t even have batteries for most of 2022 worldwide…

    Yes. It’s been out for a year already.

    Looks the same although most of the parts are slightly modified - adopted metal spikes, roller catcher, new way lighter motor & controller.

    Powerhead weight went down to 2.88kg which IIRC makes it the lightest in this class.

    The throttle feels a bit smoother too over the trigger travel.

    What is exactly “made”? Recently both Stihl and Husqvarna switched from LG & Samsung cells to Sony/Murata, both have their own BMS’es made elsewhere + most of the batteries of recent batches state “Made in Poland”.  It might mean plastic casing + assembly, it might also include BMS but in any case the batteries can’t be actually made in-house. Even the BMS will probably contain chips, resistors and thermistors made in various corners of the globe.

    Of course it can't be in the manual :) 

    Current emission laws force manufacturers to do everything anti-tackle so that only authorized hands would be able to adjust anything.

    Echo dealers are usually trained to do override and adjust the carburetor in 5 steps.

    There’s a special procedure of carburettor adjustment for units with a little P in circle next to serial.

    It has an active ignition coil that compensates ignition advancing to keep the idle steady.

    To adjust the carburettor the override procedure must be done.

     If it's the laser etched model with (P) on it (and large D for idle screw too), then the idle is rock solid 2300 +-50RPM in a very wide mixture setting range.

    If that one is not stable - the mixture is terribly off.

    Not many pro saws under 50cc available so if it's a good saw there's no reason why it shouldn't sell. The 43cc Makita is widely used and well regarded here but as above, not being made any more, this seems like a good replacement.

    4310 (known as Kioritz CS43RS in Japan) replaced CS42RS there.

    In Europe it doesn't exactly replace 390ESX - more so like a line-up spot taker.

    Physically it fills the gap (left for years) after Shindaiwa 452s/ECHO 452ESX were gone.

    I don't see how heavier and weaker competitors MS 241 and 543XP are any cheaper.

    Just rip out the spitback plate then. The engine will provide all the oil on the filter you want :)

     

    Oil will attract all the dust even sooner. With all seriousness all saw manufacturers try to avoid oil getting on the filter with even paying money for patents of spitback prevention measures. Here’s a pic of a weirdest one :)

    This one I have and seem to have to replace fairly regularly.

     

    Notice Chainsawbars has this one at 3x the price….looks like fabric rather than plastic mesh

     

     


    A226001991 Air Filter Echo 2511TES - both halves of filter. This gives you a full replacement air filter for this saw.

     

     

    Any wisdom on the differences?

     

    Nylon mesh usually has lower density (~50 micron particle filtration) is easily washable and is the best option to prevent frost formation in low temperatures.

    The felt filter has less than 20 micron particle filtration, provides good engine protection for lazy homeowners and in dusty dry conditions :) The downside is - it’s hard to wash and some of the dirt accumulates between layers, so needs to be changed way more often.

    It is the same saw, just differrent cylinder plating and additional felling mark.

    Well, the latest 362TES mod includes more aggressive ignition mapping at low revs but that one did not change the last “update digit”

    621SX is an updated version of 620SX. Added few external durability improvements like starter metal inserts, metric threaded crankcase screws, updated roller catcher.

    New clutch cover has captive nuts (same as 7310).

    Internally - engine has slightly more low end torque and unnoticeably less at higher speeds. Different porting and ignition map.

    Piston is now ventilated, has echo-specific hard coating, has higher thermal durability upper cage bearing, different piston pin and differrent rings.

    If it happens with fully charged battery just get it to the dealer.

    There is 5/2y warranty unit and non-turning off will definitely be covered :)

    Normally the membrane button turns it off in any situation.

    Putting fuel in = putting battery in

    Pulling starter = pushing ON 

    Turning OFF = turning OFF

     

    Only difference - battery saw blinks to indicate brake is engaged and also turns off soon if you leave in the middle of kindergarden or next to the clueless groundies :)

    The blinking green light indicates the chainbrake is on. The meanings of 2 types of blinking warnings are in that book nobody reads called manual :)

    Make sure you charge the battery before starting to play.
