I own a few Stihl items (038 super, hedge trimmer and brushcutter). My wee lad is autistic and need to sort a jungle of a garden to make it safe. 10 big Cyprus, 50ish 50/60yr old privet (poisonous and he eats the leaves) never seen privet like it some trunks are 12" thick.
The chainsaw has been impeccable (what a beast) fitted with Stihl 20" bar and semi chisel.
Anyway I know not strictly chainsaw but, got very little money as look after wee man full time, but trying to fix the strimmer. No spark, initially thought it was coil but got a 2nd one from another unit and it measures the same on voltmeter and doesn't make any difference. Have now noticed with a really really extra fast pull I get a weak spark (but probs not enough to start once compression in equation).
Anyway I wondered what else could it be, wiring is all good and tested with switch disconnected anyway. But underneath unit is a small metal thing attached to same place as switch on coil. Seems to be called an ignition trigger or transistor. Firstly I was wondering how this works and what it does. Is this something that would cause no/weak spark? And 2nd is there any way I can test it before replacing?
