We only tend to cut for ourselves. In the woods I prefer 3m for ease of handling and speeding things up. The guy on the processor prefers 2.4m for the same reasons…

As Mike says, 3m it’s perfect size for a log bullet. It’s also the perfect size when saving timber from jobs- small loads of straight timber such as young ash being run back to base in the back of a tipper. On a timber trailer or with not so straight species 2 bays of 2.4 is much more efficient. Or if small skinny timber that you may as well handball, I prefer 2.4s.

Why not both? 2.4s in the pickup, 3m on the trailer!

    Nice little set up there

  2. Hi Guys

Im looking to replace my log splitters with something a bit faster

would just like your recommendations please, needs to be durable pro use all winter,I have tractors to run off or would really like a tow behind mobile petrol or diesel job.

will need to be 2 and 4 way splitting and a good cycle time is also important . I fancy the Easymade but not sure they are avaliable in the uk

Just cant find anything that takes my fancy.   Cheers

  3. Hi All,

Im need a chainsaw ticket asap, mine old one was taken in the 90s and is out of date

Is there any courses coming up in the near future? willing to travel if needed, I am waiting on starting a contract,no felling just basic cross cutting

    and loading up the trailer.

Im on the Bucks Oxon border but as I say willing to travel

    Many Thanks

  4. Hi Chaps

I have hopefully bought some felled firewood in a small woodland that neighbours our land

They have asked for me to get some public liability insurance could anyone point me in the right direction and maybe a rough idea of price?

The timber is all felled and all I need to do is cut it in to manageable lengths and load up the tractor and trailer.

    Thanks..

  5. Really sorry to hear that, what a strange world we now live in.

You say pay him a visit but surely thats not his name, along with a bogus address, just some deluded con man sat at home on a lap top taking honest folks hard earned cash?

  6. Just had a measure up, L 1.96     W 1.75    H 0.51 Not sure what that is in terms of m3

If I drop two of those bags on there, to be honest I cant really get them all on

be good to know what im really delivering, the jobs hard enough without giving them away

Maybe 4 pallets nailed together and fill that up then see what that represents on the truck

    Thanks for your input

  7. Fantastic post Mark, Took the words right out of my mouth,

Yes if they do turn up ask them about my f**king log splitter and Trailer that have disappeared

And thats me that has submitted my application and shed out good money for what seems like nothing

Thinking about it who in their right mind would accept a load of wet wood and even more try and burn it,if its wet it wont burn anyway surly.

  8. I think I gave them something like £510.00,passed the application they took the money and never heard another word

Well they have emailed me once since saying if I joined now they could discount £125 off the £510

Which I have already paid.Basically they have dropped the price to try and draw in the last few victims

Yeh one of those im affraid ,I sat on the fence for months wish I had stayed on the f**ker

Well, for the last week i have been burning wet wood. Burns crap, but i cannot see any smoke coming out of house chimney. I was amazed as i thought there would be loads..

Anyway, i think the tree hugging types LIKE the idea of burning wood, as, it is apparently "carbon neutral"

I can see them tring to make it so the ONLY wood you can burn will be their little pellet things..

While i am at it, what sort of prick calls wood "biomass" It is effing wood, get over it..

    john..

Yeh biomass....Sounds good though, totally agree with you

  10. Well I have gone and submitted my Woodsure application, not totally happy with paying out

but reckon its only fair on folk that have made the effort to do things right, and |I dont really want to be on the wrong side of the regs.

Anyone know what to expect when they come out to do the audit?I have a couple of smallish barns 5m x 14m

stack the logs on pallets, sheds are covered on three sides and open fronted, with the poss of a drop down gale breaker during the winter.

Thing is there pretty much empty this time of year, normally fill up in the spring and summer,so not much to see,

  11.  looking like we better get registered with them,I reckon we shall loose a lot of trade by selling by the 2cube

So anyone know the story? they come and check out my barns take some logs away for testing and if sub20% all good

I think i read somewhere that the timber must be accredited ?No idea what that means,I do know on our firewood invoices it states the timber is non accredited .

Sometimes the harder you try the worst it gets, been doing a good job in recent years, getting all the split wood in the barn with plenty of air flowing through there, and that timbers been stacked in cord outside for 24months before putting a saw anywhere near it....some lovely stuff
