  4. best price F R Jones and Son £189 seems fit for purpose

  6. Just got some info through on Cobra saws CS520-18. They state their designed in the UK. Anyone know anything about them. Certainly not a pro saw but look as if they could be decent saws for small felling/firewood work Cobra CS520-18 18" Petrol Powered Chainsaw http://cobragarden.co.uk/CS620-20_Chainsaw.html
  7. Just wondering how does Pine/Larch/Spruce burn in a stove?? I'm taking out about an acre of it in the next couple of weeks and wondering what its like once seasoned. I've burnt it on an open fire and burns quick/hot but never in a stove
  8. Great advice and very helpful I was thinking around 3 1/2 weeks an acre with splitting the larger lengths and stacking in racks + I've been out of forest work sometime so need to find my feet. At least it will keep me busy this winter
  9. All being used for firewood, cut to length (couple of metres) split the larger lengths then stack in racks for seasoning. Then return in a year or so to cut to firewood lengths The owner has sections of forest in various sizes from a couple of acres to 10 acres all over S/W Scotland
  10. Hi all Bit of a shot in the dark here but an neighbour/private land owner has asked me how much would it cost to cut 3 acres of coppice per year. The wood is 21 acres in total split over his land and split into 7 coups of mixed broad leaf trees. Ash, Hazel, Rowan, Alder, Goat willow, Birch, Beech with good standards of Oak, Chestnut, Ash. Some of the wood has been coppiced before some 15 years ago and the rest never been touched and appears around 20 years old. Standards will be 50+ years and will not be touched. So roughly how long would it take 1 man to coppice an acre of forest split and stack the lengths and what is the going rate if any or what is reasonable to charge.
  11. Gave the saws the once over today. Both started 1st time. gave the chains a good sharpen. The casings aint the best but both saws took down some damaged Alder (about 18" dia) with out much hassle. They moved well up the tree de limbing quite easy to operate. Cutting lengths for splitting also fairly easy. Prefer the raptor over the timber pro but both impressed. Oregon bar chain on the raptor worked well. The Timberpro bar pants. Local farmer brought his Husq 455 to do the same and to be honest their appeared to be little difference to the raptor. He also had an Einhell 41cc. Certainly better than the Raptor and again did a good job overall. Raptor and Einhell very pleased with and dealt with a multiple of tasks and are capable saws. Would I want to use one every day No but for coppicing and land owner work yes. Might have some work over winter (see separate post) so I'm looking at getting a Husq 455 for this
  12. If it doesn't rain it pours, or you can wait for a bus for hours the 2 come at once. Just been handed a Timberpro 58cc 20" saw for nothing (lucky me guy just bought himself a husq) and a work colleague handed in an unwanted trueshopping raptor 58cc saw 20". Both have original cheap bar/chain. Just wondering if oregon Bars are an easy fit??? want to cut the bar size down to 16"
  13. Got a chance to get a brand new Einhell GH-PC 1535 TC 41cc unused for £75 states its 21m/s or a Einhell BG-PC 5045 Petrol Chain Saw 19m/s for £100 and Mitox CS41 £100 Local farmer has them and never used
  14. Guess Timberpro are generic chinese copies but Anyone used one of their saws?? probably change the bar/chain to oregon TIMBERPRO CS-5800 58cc 20" Petrol Powered Chainsaw TIMBERPRO 20" 62cc Petrol Chainsaw - TIMBERPRO | The Best Petrol & Garden Chainsaws & Augers Also looking at these TIMBERPRO 52cc 5in1 Long Reach Garden Multi Tool

  17. Hi all Just in the process of buying a cottage with around 6 acres of woodland. One side of the woodland is bordered by farm fields with sheep/cattle and has a stock fence, and the other side borders a very quiet country road, already a broken rotten fence here with hawthorn hedge. My plan over time is to re fence the road side but what kind of fence will suffice? A simple post and wire fence?? (4 levels of wire topped with barb. no stock fence) My overall aim is to lay the hawthorn hedge behind this. -Any programs to help gauge how many post/wire you would need -Maximum distance between posts Also who should repair the fence bordering my land and the farmer?? Rob
  18. Hi all Just wondering if anyone knows of any such courses run in Ayrshire or close by. Had a quick google search, but their doesn't seem to be any available but maybe you guys know of some?????
