    Good to see someone using elder instead of rubbishing it but as a turning wood - well, won't it pull itself to pieces as it dries further?  It's a very wet wood when green

    Tar mate, Holly, good eye. Found the Elder super easy to turn and generally nice to work with. It warps like crazy once its dried out though. Can't see it in the photos but the biggest bowl has quite a few holes and cracks in it. Smaller ones turned out okay.

  2. Do you use the same tools as turning with a powered lathe or is it a completely different tool kit as well as skill set?
     
    Ive tried turning on a powered lathe but only managed a few funky shaped bits of firewood [emoji23]

    Different tools. Long steel rods with a razor sharp hook on the end with long wooden handles for leverage. Tools are called “bowl turning hooks” as they’re designed specifically for turning bowls. I’ll post some pictures at some point.
