  1. reading through the thread im afraid it just seems like you made to many mistakes, severity of lean, woodpecker holes in limb over path, only 3 out of 4 funghi ident, no latin names on trees and only 50% on the questions.....

its only human to feel agrieved however sometimes we just need to do better next time.

stick with it, seek some feedback and give your own to the tutors but most of all try again

  2. Unsure of where to post this so apologies if this is in the wrong place.....

i have a box of 12 Fluorescent (pink and green) cans that i want to sell....

would rather the box of 12 goes together and we can work out postage

a quick google puts them between 5-7 ponds each so looking for 60 squids for the lot (excl postage)

    all are unused

    ta

  3. He's a joke; Staunchly anti nuclear for years, Fukushima occurs and he goes staunchly pro nuclear overnight. There's a pattern to what he writes and when as this recent flood event shows.

Regardless of what one thinks of the issues, anyone who flip flops from one strong opinion to the polar opposite so often... No thanks George

I think that if you change your mind on the back of evidence and scientific fact then that's fine, better than entrenching your views even in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary?

After all that's what science is?

  4. Generally trees and 'spongy' soils don't mix, if trees can't get there roots down deep enough becouse of a high water table they just blow over, which does happen a lot. And why when first planted 1st thing they do is put deep drainage ditches in and then 'plough' rows to plant the trees on.

Trees will probably dry soils long term, but that's probably a bad thing as soi cannot hold water the same so runs off quickier

I would say commercial forestry will make flooding worse

Maybe 25 years ago but commercial forestry has come along way since those mistakes, nowadays ploughing is out and mounding or similar is in. Plus UKFS takes into account water management, admittedly not always followed, but it's not the bad old days any more......where our European cousins have retained there forested uplands they see much fewer flood events like this.....

  5. Original posting aside, and agreeing that FB has its place, usually to keep all the stupid people arguing with each other, while the rest of us live in relative peace and harmony......there are a lot of good points raised in this thread.

Trees of course have there place but until we drastically rethink our approach to all our wild areas we will always see floods like this, and even then we may still see it.

Short term politics and entrenched farming/ estate views will of course mop up EU funding and retain the status quo, besides its only the north.....

  6. Christ on a bike!

Can't believe we're getting misty eyed about the Waffen SS. That lot make ISIS look like school boys! I've been to the death camps in Poland and they'll make a grown man go weak at the knees.

Get the thread back on track and less 'Daily Mail' type rhetoric on a Sunday morning !

On the upside. Jhiadi John got topped this week. 👍

Getting back on thread was my original point but since being shouted down by the ukippers this has gone from 'standing with you France' to the SS, Mossad via the Falklands, oh and don't forget the political mud slinging......extremist views, no matter the flavour will always find a home when people use tragedy to peddle their own home grown views.

  7. Thanks Eggs, I assume the 1% is ref Maggie! I'm off to get pleasantly pissed now at my French neighbour's where we will no doubt have discussions which will annoy some of the Herberts on here.

So if people disagree with you their Herbert's ? It doesn't annoy it only highlights the difference between discussion and angry responses

  8. You sound to me to be a bit of a clever bugger, try living in the real world not some airy fairy fantasy land.

Merely pointing out how compassion can turn to blame which leads to hatred which leads to suffering.....if people could stop at compassion

and by the way I mean everyone.....

  9. It's not a "right wing rant fest", it's what I consider a natural response to a massacre of innocents by people who are worried and feel it's time to take some positive action. If a bunch of thugs took action against your family would you sit back and turn the other cheek. I bleeding wouldn't and I suspect a lot of blokes on here wouldn't either. You can talk about respecting the thread, what do you think we are doing? Listen pal, I live in France and have seen the heartache felt here this morning so don't lecture us who think differently to you.

Oh the irony of the response!

  10. It's amazing how a 'our thoughts are with you' thread turns into a right wing rant fest from people who believe they know the truth and the source of the problem.....respect the thread.....if you want a 'I know how to solve the problem of terrorism' thread, start one.....*****

  11. I was also in Kos quite recently and saw the same sort of things as you, although we were staying on the other side of the island in Kefalos (very nice and i would recommend!) so only saw it on a day trip to Kos.

The media has a lot to answer for and the way they spin it makes me retch, social shaming if you dont automatically beat your chest and gnash your teeth at the wests inability to simply absorb millions of displaced people.

irrepsective of the causes (how far back in time do you want/need to go....) the solution is not to simply open the doors, even if we are force fed a diet of tragic images, or i prefer to call them manipulated left wing propoganda images.

Spending billions on in country aid and forcing the region to confront the issues is the only way to go, even that by some standards is to far.....

show me an image of a tragic immigrant and i'll show you one of an old person in a care home in a puddle of their own piss and **** cos we cant afford basic human care.....

anyway life really does suck for a lot of people, unfortunetely we cant help them all
