  1. My father in laws building me a processor so I'm just after any advice any of you have. It will be similar to this http://youtu.be/jit-ZLJetk8. The reason we're building one is because there isn't really an affordable machine that cuts and splits into 5 feet lengths for my biomass boiler. He's already bought an old 3 tonne digger which the user wil sit in to work all parts of the machine. One of the tracks will work a chain conveyor which brings logs towards saw. We're going to use a hydraulic saw. Whole thing will be mounted on a large trailer. Diggers engine and hydraulics will hopefully power everything. I need as much advice as I can get and if anyone's selling any parts which may be of use like saws then let me know!
  2. I'm looking for 25-50 tonne of softwood that's anything but freshly felled but the dryer the better as it's going in a biomass boiler. The logs need to be 5-10 feet long. I need it delivering to Cumbria
  3. Just bought 150 tonne to try get 2 years ahead of myself but I've learnt the hard way how long wood takes to dry
  4. I load my boiler once a day and it's cold and gone out every time I come to load it so I won't have any of those issues and even when there's still some burning embers it's still not too hot to stand in front of it. I'm tempted to go to twice a day loading so that there's definitely enough embers to get the next load going again. When I burnt larch it was great because there would always be embers the following morning and it produced so much heat but I'm on spruce now and I hate it.
  5. I'm just saying I wish I'd got that boiler but I've actually got a dragon D20 which also takes big stuff but it's very hard to light large diameter logs even with lots of diesel so I'm splitting to dry and to light the wood easier.
  6. Can't fault the boiler but the company is worst company I have ever dealt with! I've had an idea! I will chop my logs at 5 feet long and split them with a homemade machine seeing as know one makes one that splits that long. I will then stack the wood to dry and once dry I will load into boiler with this Bucket Grabs, 4 in 1 Buckets, Toe Tip Buckets, Stone Forks, Grass Forks, Log Grabs, Skips & Rear Loader: Agricultural loader and handler attachment manufacturer | Slewtic Ltd, Kendal, Cumbria Log grab at the bottom will go on my jcb and I think it might just fit in boiler and let go of wood so if that works then jobs sorted!
  7. Has anyone thought of an easy way of loading a dragon boiler with a telehandler with round logs between 4 and 5 feet long ?
  8. I'm wanting at least 100 tonne of softwood ideally larch but would take other stuff as well delivered to Kirkby Stephen
  9. Does anyone in Cumbria have a wood processor which will cut to 1.2 or 1.3 metres and then split it and ideally have a crane on it to load the logs?
  10. I like look of this machine [ame] [/ame] But can't find any info on it in English or a uk dealer?
  11. Your joking? Never heard of it! Will give Phil a ring tomorrow about it. Is it any good?
  12. Anyone got pictures of homemade driers or bought driers as I'm also needing one for my dragon boiler to dry my wood out b4 burning
  13. That's a bit small really so would create work for me. Wants to be 4-5 foot lengths
  14. Urgently need some dry wood for my dragon boiler as stuff I'm on is getting less dry ideally in Cumbria
  15. I have a dragon D20 biomass boiler and I'm sick of hand balling huge lumps of wood into it because I'm eventually going to do my back in so I like the idea of bundling it into billets and strapping them up and loading a bundle in with the jcb but my local contractor has a posch splitter which only does 1 meter lengths and there still to chainsaw into those lengths. A bundle of billets at a meter long won't fill my boiler very much so that's why Id make a bundling machine that wud do 4 or 5 foot lengths and get more like 1.5 cube of wood into a bundle instead of the usual 1 cube. So ideally I'd load a 10 foot log onto a platform which comes along and gets chopped at 5 foot then gets split then gets loaded into the bundler.
