  1. I got the hyway standard size ready for the modern decomp valve, which is now fitted. The old head was the piped type.

I did the squirt trick already, that's what lead me to the clamp. I've used that previously on vehicle engines.

The new clamp and partition wall will be arriving imminently.

  2. I've had chance to use the saw in anger now, it's not quite right.

Doing a little bit of research shows that Husky replaced the plastic clamp on the inlet with at metal one. I think I'll perform the same change and see if it improves things.

  3. Really liking the layout. I can see it being very much appreciated.

Thanks it's a crown in case it wasn't obvious. I was given the task of taking someones drawing and laying out the markers in the muddy field.

Really pleased with how it turned out. We have one of the Jubilee Oaks at the top of the diamond.

  4. Hi Bluemerlin, well done on getting the area planted up and creating a new scout camp site. I'm an explorer leader and would potentially be interested in using it if you could post more details about the campsite.

I'm an explorer leader too, send me a PM and I'll get everything together.

I love Scouting and I love woods. This is fantastic. Have you got a blog (or is this thread it)?

This is it. I'm not particularly wordy more of the practical type. Hence why I've only just posted now. Been a lurking guest for a while.

Good diverse mix of species, but why only three Scots Pine? Its a native British tree.

We have woodland on either side so tried to keep to what was here before. The Scots Pine are planted near the pond and are to encourage raptor nesting.

As we are close to the Salisbury plain one of the things that is available on google earth is aerial photography from the war. Here is the 'field' in 1945.

  5. It wasn't hornbeam as the other main species it was hazel but we did swap out the ash.

Yes there were grants available. We found them pretty helpful but I'm not sure how much is usual and how much is because we are Scouts.

  6. The little short piece that curves around and almost doubles back on itself? That's the impulse pipe. Just make sure its good when replaced. Slightly to long or to short they have a habit of kinking on the bend restricting flow.

Yeah that will cause it to run lean.

    Good job sorted.

Oh and make sure you check chain sizeto be safe when you order as they can either be .325 or 3/8

Thanks for the advice. That's the one.

I checked the guidebar and cross referenced on Oregons website.

I've done the lantra training for CS30, and lantra training for CS31 in a couple of weeks. Not sure if I'll do the assessment at the moment.

  7. Looks great

I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly, is that 14 acres?

    What species did you plant?

Yes a 14 acre field. Just checked here Area Calculator Using Maps

It was ancient woodland till the 60's. Spoke to the woodland trust and foresty commision for guidance predominantly Oak and Hornbeam. it was going to be Oak and Ash but dieback arrived just as we were about to order.

I'll dig out the exact numbers. But all native species apart from 3 pines.

  8. Well done bud . Did you fix what caused the saw to nip up in the first place ? Maybe an air leak somewhere perhaps . Don't want it going again !

All the pipe work needed replacing. The little pipe on the inlet manifold was perforated. Carb settings were pretty lean.

Cylinder was very scored pictures don't really show it.

It's my first saw but an engine is an engine. Chain and sprocket have been hammered so treating it to new. Guidebar is in good condition.

  9. Was donated a dead and in pieces 357xp. Stripped it down and things weren't good.

Complete stripdown and rebuild. replaced piston and cylinder.

Moment of truth today and brrmm brmmm. Well chuffed.
