Been going for 10 months now, our aim was always to get a website. Has anybody used JimDo either to do it them selves or has just used the platform. Looked at tutorials on YouTube and it looks good.

Thanks Dean 0 will give them a ring.

I'm presently getting a quote together for a large contract. I'll need to use a 80ft cherry picker. Does anybody have any contact details of a company in the Rhondda South Wales area. How much would a day and weeks hire rates be. Access is OK on a flat Tarmac surface.

I've been asked to cut a 15ft high laurel hedge to 8ft, it is approx 120 feet long. Should I chip it or just haul it out. I have a GTM GTS1300 chipper and a trailer.
-
Thanks for all your replays. I guess I'll try and pull it in by hand first if that does not work I can mount a winch as wicklamulla. Like that setup, very simple. Just need to sort out some ramps.
-
im looking at a GTM chipper, probably similar to a Jo Beau M300. Not sure of the weight, just seen a quick demo today and fits my needs and budget.

I have a double cab ford ranger and would like to have the ability of putting a small 4" chipper onto thr back of my pickup. Normally I would be moving it around on my 10x5 trailer, if the trailer is full I'd like the ability to get the chipper home in one trip.
What type of winch and ramps are you using. I'd like a manual winch maybe mounded to the ladder rack above the tonneau cover, but I can see a problem with tha handle fouling against the cab.

It's been an interesting post. The variation of quotes has surprised me. I can understand if your busy and can take or leave the work. I could quote £1000 but I'll probably not get the job as there are plenty of bigger outfits who would come and get it done for that. Unfortunately we are not, so have to quote carefully and competitively to make a profit and win over the customer. In the future as we grow our prices will probably go up.

Unfortunately at the moment its going to be the trailer to haul the waste out. Would love to have a tipper and chipper, but thats the future.
I clearly understand to get there I must not sell ourselves short, equally I have to get the work in. Hopefully doing this one job at a reasonable price will lead on to other work.
Thanks to all who contributed.

Thanks guys for all your inputs. I'll be talking to the customer to check out the possibility of access via the neighbours garden. If not add extra for the waste removal.
-
I understand Dog Tag, luckily he has spent several months getting rid of the wast that has been removed already.
-
My original thoughts were around £350, so its nice to see I'm in the right area, I have not got my own chipper only a 10x5 trailer so was going to take it to the recycle plant, which may take a few trips, probably cheaper than hiring the chipper as the access to the front of the house isn't great.
As a learning curve it will be ideal, not to difficult but get you thinking on all the variables.
Neighbours help in using their access would be great and the client is on good terms with them.
-
Also the stump is to be cut to ground level, as the fence in the picture is to be moved back 6 feet.
-
The neighbour is more than happy to have it removed and think he will be helpful, which obviously will be in his interest. The terrace is uphill to remove the waste. I agree it is straight forward, my son has just passed all his CS30,31,38 & recently 39, this his is second quote on a job and suits his experience level and kit/equipment he has. So we don't want to loose the job with a quote that is not at least competitive but gives us a profit.

Thanks as well cgs.

This conifer is at the bottom of an 80m terraced garden. The customer has been chopping away at it for a while as you see by the photos. The remaining branches overhang the neighbours garden, fence and decking below. All waste to be carried to the front of the house with only a 3 footpath along the side of the house with a door leading to the drive. The route is via a steep path. Stump at present to stay. No way of getting a chipper to the bottom of the garden.

Thanks Ollyw

Where can I take my tree waste in the Cardiff & Pontypridd areas. I have a waste carriers license and would like to now what sites are open to me.
-
Once again thanks for all the advice. I have learnt a lot already.

Thanks guys, all your points are taken on board. Initially when I was asked I shook my head and said 'no'. But to be fair to the farmer he is willing for me to have a look at the job as he prefers to give work to people he has close contact with,in this case my relative. I'm not sure of the quantity as yet. I have nothing to lose at this stage. For sure I'll pass,on the opportunity if I can't deliver.

I've been asked by a farmer who is a friend of a relative to quote, to erect some fencing to keep his cows in. I have just starting up doing Trees & fencing. I have plenty of experience doing fencing for private houses but have never done anything on a bigger scale for a farmer.
Have you any advice on how to tackle the job and how do I quote for it.
Where would somebody by the wire fencing required in the Pontypridd area.
I want to do a good job as I would like to approach the farmer to rent some land from him in the future if the tree surgery part of the business takes off.
