Are there likely to be any good deals at the show or has the internet destroyed that? I miss the good old days

Enjoyed the Dibnah vid but was hard to watch at times. I will use ladders but never feel that safe on them. The way he hangs off the ladder with such confidence!

Used both, don't see much different between either to be honest. They are both a good professional saw that does what it says on the tin, destroy big wood!

Thanks. I dont have a steam washer so will try with the boiling water method

Hi chopalog
I found the chainsaw choice to be weaker based on the following:
1. Blade maintenance and lifespan
2. Noise and vibration
3. Smoke
4. General Blade Proximity Hazzards
5. Speed
6. Sawdust
Now I know if you had a hydraulic motor running the saw several of these issues would disappear, but the main issue of maintenance would always be there.
I have found the circular blade to be awesome for maintenance intervals. It need to be sharpened less than once a year.
I plan to upgrade my power-plant (to a 20hp) and I expect this to lead to much improved speed.

I can agree on some of those points, but not noise! I have found chainsaw to be far quieter than circular saw

I am looking for something for loading timber onto a firewood processor and can't decide between a boxer or an avant. Has anyone on here used both options?

What made you go for a circular saw over a chainsaw?

I own a hakki pilke 1x37 which is going on 12 years old now. It has been a good reliable machine. Having said that, compared to some of the others on the market it feels a little flimsy. This was reflected in the price at the time, not sure what prices are like currently though.
Whats the most efficient system to cut and split rings?

Split em down till they are small enough to fit in the bay of a firewood processor, thats what I do. Stand alone splitters are notoriously slow and boring to use. Most of the time an axe is a lot quicker if the wood is easy to split. I have watched people spend all day on a vertical splitter and barely make up 2 loads.
