Petrol/diesel all starts off the same, the cheap gear is as refined and goes off to supermarkets etc . The likes of Shell and the other big players blend theirs with additives which is why they are dearer. The crap car killer stuff was just a mistake and I think the big boys have had similar problems in the past .  Where the fuck is Jon from @Rye Oil Ltd `s when you need him ?

Hi Bob, hope all is well. I think the supermarket fuel is definitely a lower quality fuel. It will meet all the necessary British standards, but will be closer to "going off" than the big name oil companies. With the rise of ethanol in the fuel, which if memory serves me right is about to go up again in percentage terms, this is more of a issue than it used to be. I think if the supermarket forecourt has a large through put of fuel, then it really should not effect vehicles that much. It obviously does effect chainsaws/mowers etc as has been well documented.

I don't think the fuel that shell etc sell ( apart from the premium products), is fundamentally different from the fuel the supermarkets sell, just "fresher".

  2. I had to run 20wt Flushing Oil in the head for 2000 tonnes to clear out the veg cack. Then chucked in PPS oil followed by Rye, wouldn't oil. Use basic SAE 30 now.

HI, just to let you know we do a 100 c/s option for running in cold weather or for people who struggle to pump the 150 c/s product.

I am happy to pop you a sample over to test.

  3. Hi, I was hoping to get some advice from someone who has had some experience with Western Red Cedar Wood cladding.

We have been selling a UV resistance wood oil for some time and had loads of positive feedback. The oil is clear and is designed to keep the natural colour of the wood. We have had a customer use it on freshly milled wood and it has darkened the wood in patches.

The pictures show before and after shots of the wood.

I know its difficult to tell from a photo but if anyone has got any ideas what may have happened I would very much appreciate the input.

    Thanks

  4. It may be something we will look at in the future, its a relatively new area for me so lots of research and testing, but if there is a market for it I don't see why not.

    Cheers for the heads up.

  5. Hi Will, it all comes down to the finish, our decking oil is mostly suitable for soft woods, so pine and cedar etc. When you apply it to darker hardwoods the finish can be affected and may produce a patches of darker finish. It still protects the wood and prevents discoloration by UV but I know for a fact it doesn't work on Iroko as I had that tested by a local fencing firm. I cannot say whether this is the case for other peoples oils just ours.

    Hope this is of assistance.

    Thanks

    Jon

  6. Hi have recently started selling a range of wood oils, ie decking oil, tung oil and the like. I am in the middle of formulating a Danish oil which is a mix of tung oil and a high UV napthenic base oil.

It would be great if I can find 2 or 3 people who are familiar with other peoples Danish oil to test it and let me know how it performs. If you can let me know next week I will be blending it I can send a 5 litre sample out.

    Thanks in advance

    Jon

  7. Thanks for the feedback. Its different than the majority of shows we do so may be worth a punt. Thanks for the burger heads up Mark, if your a burger connoisseur you should check out Half Man Half Burger in Hastings, its amazing, best burgers I have ever eaten and they do wicked chili cheese fries as well.

  8. We do a number of shows through the year, mostly vintage vehicle shows but we were thinking about getting a stand at the Bentley Woodfair. Is this a good show and would it be worth us having a trade stand there?

    Thanks in advance

    Jon

  9. Time was we used EP 90 (gear oil) because that's pretty much what we had, that was several decades ago and, while there are now alternatives that may or may not be better, the old stuff still works.

Its not so much a case of getting it wrong as much as things have moved on

Ep 90 is the same thickness as our mineral chain oil but has a different additive set. The chain oil has a tacky additive and an anti wear one. I am not sure I'de want Ep 90 spraying all over the place.

  10. Hi Jon, I just found it too gloopy & have had to clean my bar, chain & cover a lot more than I do normally. Sheer laziness probably but it does clog up everything more than any other brand I've used. However it has been better on the warmer days but they are few & far between in Pembrokeshire. Nowt wrong with the product, just doesn't suit me. Cheers

No worries like I said I am always open to feedback.

I am actually in the process of developing a 100 C/S chain oil that is a bit thinner than our normal spec.

Hopefully this will help people who work in colder parts of the country, also some chainsaw pumps struggle with the thicker oil.

    So this may help

    Cheers

    Jon

  11. I bought 25l of Rye oil of eBay for £47 delivered I think it was, really don't rate it at all & won't be buying it again, back to oregon next time I think.

Hi, I am really surprised by this, we sell a lot of chain oil and you are the first person that I can remember, who has come out and said they don't rate it or that it doesn't stand up to our competitors.

If there is anything in particular you don't like, let me know I am always open to constructive feedback about our products.

    Thanks

    Jon

  12. Hi all,

I was just curious as to how many of you guys and girls use stihl 2 stroke oil in your machines.

Ive never used it and not had that many issues with my stihl machines, stihl do recommend you use there own 2 stroke oil.

The reason im asking is a mate has problems with a newer stihl chainsaw,he returned it too the place he bought it to be told the saw would not be fixed under warranty as he didnt used stihl brand 2 stroke mix...

Im of the opinion the seller is playing silly buggers.

    What do you think...

HI, if your friend was using a 2-stroke oil that had the same spec as the Stihl oil that was recommended and he was using the correct mix ratio, then they are braking the law saying it cant be fixed under warranty.

They are very clever in trying to get round this issue, because they cannot force people into using a particular brand they change the mix ratio for anyone else's oil. So for instance they will say use the stihl oil at 50:1 but if any other brand it has to be 25 : 1 even if it is top of the range Redline stuff.

I think as long as he is using a decent spec oil and he mentions the EU law that specifically bans the process of forcing buyers to use a set brand of oil,

    he should get it fixed.

    Hope this helps

    Jon
