  1. I shall set a link up to my web site where by I can keep an update to questions asked / raised about the Terrasaw.

I shall also post one or two more videos of where it was used in the previous video and then later, in several weeks time I shall post a more accurate video of it being used for its intended purchase ( secondary slitting for drainage on garden lawns).

You shall note that in the videos for secondary drainage slitting it is used in a more controlled environment due to the use of the supplied trolley and ground type.

  2. Hi there Sandworks!!!

Me likey too but I tell you one thing, I would not fancy using it, in fact I would not use it if I were tired or suffering from a late night as you really do require your wits about you!

  3. Great responses thank you all and a lot of food for thought!

Perhaps I should have started a for and against petrol / Battery saw.

Steve I whole heartedly agree with you but there is just something that attracts me to the battery stihl (perhaps I want to maximise my speed charger and spare battery)?!

A further dilema is that I also now require a much larger saw as I keep killing my baby stihl 231 :confused1:

  4. Im looking for a top handled saw.

I am leaning towards the echo as it is considerably cheaper than the Stihl and the Husky and gets some really great reviews.

My dilemma is that I have the Stihl battery trimmer and basically I am wondering if I should look at the Stihl battery top handled chain saw?

    Sooo to summerise

Still battery top handled chain saw or the Echo????????

    Regards

  5. Hi jay.

Yes we have contemplated a power harrow for some time. With the advantages that it can work deeper and bury the stones.

The only reason I am not looking at a stone berries is that I actually want to rid the tilled area of stones for domestic jobs that is.

On larger scaled jobs then your method is 100% the way forward.

Your comment about manoeuvrability. Another reason for the blec as I suspect it would manoeuvre better than a power harrow due to the fact that the combined working length of blec and two wheeled tractor would be shorter in length than the power harrow?

    Is that avant approx 15k?

    Very nice, very quick!

    Regards

    Greg

  6. They are very good in the right conditions. Must not be too wet.

personally I would suggest that if it is an old lawn, removing the turf first would be better.

if I had the money, I would buy one. I used one for a job and the results were first class. You do end up with a pile of stones and trash to get rid of.

you could consider a camon stoneburier, which will also give good results, without the need to rake up the stones, and then use the blec. That would be the rolls royce of jobs. Once you have the two wheeled tractor, the attachments will all interchange.

go for a diesel if you can. More torque

    Hi there Dan.

Yes it is the money that is keeping this potential investment pending and the huge dilemma over petrol or diesel. Diesel is a good thousand pounds dearer.

The purchase would be ready for 2015 as hiring a two wheeled tractor and a stone burier type of attachment is approx. 150 pounds per day and just is not worth it on the smaller lawns.

    We are currently working on financial projections meaning;

    1. Divide the purchase price over 3 or 5 years including servicing to work out our own costings per job.

    2. In the long run it would allow us to lower our prices quite considerably.

    3. Able to offer tiered pricing structure so the client can decide on what specification of lawn they want hence securing more jobs rather than pricing to cheap or blowing our selves out of the water.

    4. As you already stated it may prove useful for other work. What we do not know yet!

If any body has any more further details for how the hire company work their hire costs out then please let me know.

    Kind regards

  7. Good morning all.

    Posted on other forums.

As the title suggests we are looking at purchasing a pedestrian Blec power box rake.

Power Box Rake with BCS | Blec Global Ltd

As our company trades outside of the UK it is extremely difficult for us to demo one of these units.

95% of our business consists of new lawn construction, lawn restorations and with the blec power box rake perhaps lean towards "recycling an old weedy/mossy lawn" and then re-seeding.

    My questions are...

    1. Has any body used one? Pro's/Con's

    2. Has anybody experience of two wheeled tractors. Diesel or petrol as one of these are required to power the unit.

    3. Will simply rotorvating give us the same results for lawn site preparation.

    4. I read somewhere else that it is better to use a stone burrier to burry the old lawn underneath itself and to then skim over with the Blec? ( for the time being we would only have have the Blec with possibly a rotorvator attachment).

    5. How does or would the Blec deal with an old lawn, would it be a pain in the bum removing all of the dead grass, weeds and moss with the Blec?

    6. For the initial outlay of approx £5000-£6000 will the Blec provide a good return on investment or are there other machines out there that we have over looked (for example we have had a kanga kid mini skid steer on hire with rotorvator attachment)?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and positively answer.

    Regards

    Gregory.

  8. There have been many wise words on here and a good chance for medium to mature business owners to reflect upon. I certainly have.

In the mean time think long and hard regarding your company brand. Branding is for the life of the business and it is best to get it right first time even if it takes a little longer.

Play with names, experiment with colours.

    Three key lessons we learnt.

    1. Keep your name and brand unique, simple and self explanorty.

    2. Keep colours and logos simple. This really does effect web site design, uniform printing costs and equally as important how the final design will work with the vehicle.

    3. If you are not 100% committed or if the branding does not feel right do not waste time, valuable energy and money to pursue it.

We have literally just launched the tree care part of the business, something we have been experimenting with for over two years now.

Everything just felt that now is the correct time. Website updated, already we have version two of the tree care flyer, 2000 flyers waiting to get back from the printers ready for letter box lottery next week!

I hope to free lance as a groundie or climber for other larger companies and to also promote our own uniqueness to all potential clients.

We start with small manageable jobs and ask the bigger companies in regard to larger jobs.

All of our marketing, branding, logo, website design have been done in house solely by us and many lessons learnt along the way!

Any questions regarding logo etc etc please ask.

Kind regards, good luck and climb safe.

    Gregory

  9. Contact FR Jones as I ordered bits and bobs a couple of weeks ago and they were absolutely amazing.

I am sure they said they accept bank transfer however it is a little long winded.

I think from order to delivery was only three days.

Can you not buy the kit yourself with a UK card and then get your boss to pay?

In the mean time I shall contact my local supplier which should make the whole purchase easier and they import then deliver direct to your German addy.

    Regards

  10. My 2012 MacBook Pro has got slow as a week in the jail, spinning beach ball is a familiar sight now.

Know they're different from pcs re defragging hd but anyone got any solutions? Someone told me to clear out iPhoto as if that is taking lot of memory will slow it down.

    Thanks in advance

Spinning ball is the sign that you need to upgrade your physical memory and to carry out all of the above that NFG stated!

Pop onto the crucial memory website and that shall tell you how much memory you can add.

Deleting photographs will only free up physical hard drive space.

You could double check your trash can / recycle bin empty this because this can be a memory drain dependant upon which version of OS X you are using.

    Hope this helps?

  11. I have never used Grazon so cannot comment on when and when not to use it. Have a look at the data sheet as this will give recommendations when to use post seeding.

Some selective weed killers can be used as early as the second leaf growth post germination. (We have never hit a lawn this early in its developing stage).

Seasonally now is not the ideal or most effective time to apply a selective weed killer as both the grass and weeds slow down growth during the summer months due to excessive heat and low rain falls.

    Recommendation

Explain to the clients that any cultivation will always raise weeds seeds to the surface ready for them to germinate and any freshly seeded area shall always have an amount of weeds. Weed seeds can last for a good five years prior to germinatin.

    New lawn preparation.

As previously mentioned hit the area with roundup, leave for approx two weeks and then rotorvate and ideally leave for a further two-four weeks for the ground to settle and weeds to germinate. Hit it it once more with round up at the lowest dosage rating, leave for 7-14 days and then seed.

    Post germination

Wait until the grass is a little more mature and keep feeding, a little and often approx (maybe half doses of fertiliser as freshly germinated grass cultivars do benifit from an extra feed during development.

    Early Autmen

In September / October hit the area with POLAX.

    POLAX

    Spring

Spring time next year apply a very gentle BioStimulate and as the weather warms apply a granular feed. Mid spring hit again with a selective and I can gurantee your clients shall be amazed!

Any more questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

    Regards

    Gregory

  12. Once you have had mac you will never go back!

As per the previous post buy the highest processor spec you can afford, memory can actually be added very easily when and if required allowing you to pump all of your money directly back into the highest spec processor.

Apple refurb can offer fantastic bargains, the only difference is that they come in a brown box.

We have a 27" and absolutely love it to bits, three years old and still works flawlessly. The great thing with apple is the after care. We had an email last year staring that our harddrive should be replaced as it was deemed defective and they recalled them. Our imac was well and truly out of warranty and the hard drive was working spot on. We took the imac one day to our local reseller.

The reseller replaced our hard drive with a new one and then said there was a problem with our logic board so this was replaced at the same time oh and they even replaced the LCD screen. ALL FOR FREE!

So would I recommend no question.

Expensive initial outlay but depreciation over 3-5 years suffers less then a typical PC.

  13. I agree and did you know they have also extended the warranty for up to ten years?

How do you find the zillion, I was a toss up between the zillion and the CELANYARD. I settled for the CELANYARD and sometimes wish I had of gone for the zillion!

I still feel Petzel could have possible tested to more extreme measures and over engineered the product rather than suffering all of the bad press that they have done.

And now I eagle await my wrope wrench so I can attempt SRT with wrope wrench and ZIGZAG!!!

  14. I have the Honda Pro 536 roller and it is a heavy unit but creates wonderful stripes!

If I had a few more large scale commercial contracts I would immediately get an Estesia hydrostatic mulcher. Fast, efficient and saves you a pretty penny on the grass clippings!

    Hope this helps

    Regards

  15. Hi Guys

Im going to run my company digitally to save on paper and time! I would love to go with Apple but they are to expensive and too powerful for what we need! I have three teams so I want to buy a tablet for each team leader so I can communicate with them and they can have all of there paperwork before and after photos etc...

Just want your info on good tablets out there?

    Many Thanks

If at all possible I would hold off on the purchase until you can afford the iPads/iPad mini .

Whilst I accept Apple is a highly priced product you could look at buying the iPads direct from Apple as refurbished units saving approrox 14% of each unit and still comes with apple gurantee. Further extend each unit gurantee with apple care.

Over the life expectancy of the products you will still be able to have equity within the product as most Apple products hold onto their value somewhat crazy. Depreciation with Apple products is at a minimum.

I would argue the iPads would save you money in the long run over a three year period.

Buying an overpowered machine now pays dividend long term and will prevent your team leaders from cussing you. If you buy the minimum and cheapest machine now I would say that your digital dream could become a digital nightmare.

Data synchronisation and complete data back up simply works with an ipad. Loose/damage the machine and all is not lost. Insurance supplies a new machine, you simply add your personal details and the new machine is simply restored. Simples!

Productivity side the ipad would provide the greatest return on investment. As you will have your team leaders warming to your digital office and the Apple products simply do just work out of the box.

(In another life I had a lot of experiance with communications).

Am I an apple fan boy? I was but now I think some of their mojo has been lost and I am still pissed at buying the ipad 3 cellular for Apple to then simply wash their hands of the ipad three and launch the ipad 4 only six months down the line!

I have broke the screen twice on my ipad in side a griffen survivor case and I will now be putting it up on ebay with a damaged screen. Maybe I will get 200£ for it? All in all a very very expensive outlay two years ago but it has been a great little work horse.:thumbup1:

Oh and bofore everybody flames me I and my company are now stuck in the Apple echo system. Some days this pisses me off but on the whole you pay for what you get and yes I do accept the 30% price premium on apple products is worth while especially over the life of the product.

  16. Hi Joe.

Yes the ZigZag is not officially accepted for SRT and I had this warning given to me at the shop last week when I ordered the WW.

It was on this forum that gave me the idea to experiment with the WW and zigzag. I really want to use the zigzag as it is only two weeks old!

If the consensus of opinion is that I should only climb SRT with out zigzag then I guess I will resort to hitch and pulley for the beginning.
