How do you find a local sawmill as I am not in the business?
-
Thank-you. Tanat Valley Firewood
There was a guy on here who I got 7 tonnes off last year for the price of the delivery costs. But he is not picking up his messages at the moment.
Hadn't thought of trying our local saw mill, will ask them about their slab wood. Tree surgeons around here sell their wood as there are soo many people with burners now.

Let me know if you have anything for free - arbwaste. Stuff that's not good enough to sell and you need a tidy site. Especially if you are in my area HP23 4QU. I would like your Hardwood timber please/thank-you. Especially if you can just dump it on our drive.
I am not in the industry just looking for stuff to season for my Rayburn to keep the bills down so not too fussy what I receive.

I would have it but too far away in Herts, Beds, Bucks border.
Shame.
Still waiting for some to come up here to season for the Rayburn.

Yes we have one.
I think they are really good if you want your house heated more evenly.
Shop around of course as the prices vary. We got our Ecofan from Amazon.

Hi Joe,
I have tried to pm you but I think your inbox is full.
Re: Wanted: Hardwood: Beds, Bucks, HertsIf you have any wind blown trees or timber.I am always on the lookout for timber in the Beds, Bucks, Herts area they want to get rid of..
It's really frustrating at this time of year when there is lots of wind blown stuff around and just can't seem to get to it.
I was at Spa training college today and asked about a huge tree that was blown down. They said I could have a few logs but the rest had to be burnt on site by the head gardener! So I have emailed the general manager.
I would happily come get it from you as long as it’s free/cheap. Any now or in the future please send me a pm.

Let me know if , Tring. is close enough. I would like your Hardwood timber please. Especially if you can just dump it on our drive. This is what I have said on Arbtalk with a little luck so far. It's in my Rayburn as we write! I had to go and get it - no problem.
So there must be other places too where they just have to burn the stuff. I have also emailed the local golf course too. As I need a break. I can provide a free log tip site I have told them to save you having to burn it onsite.
Other wind blown trees I have seen all belong to farmers and have not yet approached them yet as apparently they get SPS subsidy.
I have a VW transporter van I can borrow for the day and collect a load or two. There must be other legal ways of getting wood as we need a regular supply?
Towser
Thanks in advance

Care to elaborate or are we just down to basic/guessing literacy on Arbtalk?
-
Anybody got one in Hertfordshire?

I would like some/all of it please. Always on the lookout.
I have sent you a pm.
Thanks Towser

If it was near me I would have gladly taken it & would have been very appreciative of your kind gesture!
Me too, I am a stove owner but about an hour away.
Always on the lookout for logs to keep the bills down. I wonder what regulations there are to be a free tip site for logs only preferably hardwood!

I'd love to have it.

I didn't know you gave it away on Freecycle and Gumtree I have been waiting on the Firewood forum for some.
I'd love to have some hardwood cos the soft stuff tars up my chimney.

I've noticed during my internet trawling of anything remotely connected to burning wood/logs, there's quite a lot of reference to collecting/having access to free wood....
I just wondered where they stand legally, if anyone knows that is...
I know collecting on private land obviously requires land owners permission but
...is it legal to collect from a council owned wood on common land?
I'm only thinking of fallen branches etc....I'm not contemplating taking a chainsaw to a 100 year old oak tree or anything remotely similar....

I am a domestic buyer (for my Rayburn) so no expert. I have been looking on ebay at £60 per meter cubed of chopped logs. They only say dry/seasoned not how dry in terms of moisture content reading. I don't know whether to trust ebay as they look like amateurs and it could all be softwood.
If I were to buy from a reputable local source/company who sell it regularly I know they charge £80 (last year) per meter cubed of chopped logs. - Delivered.
Obviously I try not to buy and always on the lookout for free stuff even if it is just felled so that I can chop it and season it myself so that I know what I am getting. I have received a couple of meter cubed this year with Freecycle and Arbtalk so far this year.

Can you retro fit a thermal store to allow the heating to be used early mornings?
We have a multifuel Rayburn and using anthracite until we get some free wood off Arbtalk. Need some near HP23 4QU please.
It does all the hotwater, radiators, cooking etc in winter. In summer we use electric immersion heater for hot water or just use electric shower.
How much would a thermal store cost to retrofit?
Few tonnes of Hardwood required
