  1. Neil Thanks for your comments very valuable. The auger was at 19 degrees, I've raised it to 16.5 but need to go a bit further yet. Obviously with a flat floored pit what you suggest to mount the gearbox on? I was going to put some shuttering up to lay a concrete slab\box. Probably needs to be 3ft cubed. Would a steel box be better bolted to the pit floor? For the arms, the boiler is on the north side of the pit. The east and west side of the pit have 35cm of clearance between the pit walls and the end of the agitator arms. The west panels has a clearance of 5cm and the north about 1m. As the boiler is a snugg fit I can't move the agitator gearbox only change the agitater arms. Is it correct that they are none adjustable? As for the auger section running through the pit wall, this being changed for some reason, can't remember why, why is this auger housing section special? Concrete panels are sealed and the whole pit had a double layer of visqueen laid in the hole before we dropped the panels it to keep the water out. As for panelling the pit out. I'd like it panelling out but time and cash could be in short supply this year so I might leave it til next summer. I think I'd like to leave a good gap between the arms and the paneling as some suggest the arms need to be able to push oversized pieces down rather than. Catching on the arms on every rotation. Thanks for your useful advice Neil, where are u based? Other than this the install is going well, filling the pit twice per year is going to be a luxury compared with carrying wood into the house everyday (using about 12 cub, per year) So I guess we are still looking for the dream chipper Chip arb waste to g30 PTO driven 160 For less than £15k Minimal oversized piece to block up biomass boilers.
  2. What milling kit are you running?
  3. . Although it doesn't seem like it the pit will be at ground level, see top left of the image. 61cu/m capacity hopefully means it should need filling twice per year.
  4. Here's the pit woodchip fans
  5. Openspace - I was thinking about putting some bollards in the pit to almost reduce the down force in the agitator. Encourge a little bridging if you like. This should hopefully reduce the load on the gearbox and auger. I've 2 house, one I let out and adjoined a tiny village hall. This 50kw will be heating the lot. Just installed concrete panels today. Looks great I'll add pics tomorrow. With respect to chip type, I have endless ash and birch tree around so u was (the last I cut down was 140 years old). I intend to chip every last lb of the tree but how to economically chop the brash is my biggest concern. Pto chipper...? Crap Chinese 8'' on eBay start at £1500 or I could spend 20k
  6. this is the first install. Test fix. Concrete panels going in tomorrow!
  7. Thanks guys. Some important points for me to bare in mind. I'll start with some decent stuff and then maybe blend in a little finer chip later on.
  8. i'm just having an eta woodchip burner fitted and intend to run it on homegrown wood chipped at 25% moisture at G30/50 sizing. while hiring in a huge chipper to make this makes perfect sense i've also heaps of brash <50mm and less that i was considering putting through a small hired in chipper. Obviously this will create a much finer chip, has anyone put such material through a woodchip burner? has anyone had any issues with such material?
  9. Where have u seen the damage repairable?
  10. I'm after one too to feed a couple of boilers. Would someone like to scare me with the price please?
  11. What you really need to loose weight is hard work. 18lbs in 4 weeks. Anyone beat that?
  12. Excuse my ignorance but are you just climbing for fun or are you Cutting these tree too?
  13. All identified now. That's for the pm's
  14. Thanks for your comments, trousers it is then.
  15. Looking for some chainsaw chaps, can anyone recommend a mid priced pair. Only sawing 12 days a year, no climbing just general cutting/light felling. Any recommendations?
  16. I'm looking for someone to identify 30-50 trees for me within a 16 acre woodland near sutton bank sometime next week. Really just looking to highlight the oaks and other high value wood. I'm very flexible next week 6-12th of jan for someone to visit the site. Will pay cash for your time, wouldn't have thought it would take more than an hour (2 tops) If you are in the area and interested please pm me. Thanks and also (yes I could buy a book but I haven't the time and it's a challenging time of year to be identifying trees)
  17. Perfect thanks guys
  18. I'm looking for the name of the sort of cable tape measure for measuring timber lengths before cutting. It clips onto you belt and hooks onto the end of the timber while you walk and measure to depict you next sawing point. Can anyone tell me name of this rope style tape measure?
  19. Where is you local potato merchant? Those crates sound ideal!
  20. Thanks all, some very varied feedback. i guess ultimately what is most important is controlling the quality of the woodchip and fuel security (i.e prices and delivery) are key for me. Wet chip and foreign objects are what i am looking to avoid to ensure my boiler lasts 30 years. So having read your feedback i think August - kill Trees in while stood up, Can anyone recommend a gylcophate/Round applicator gun that i can use to inject roundup into trees rather than drilling holes/ Feb - Fell trees and forward to an exposed area where wind and sun can dry the logs naturally over summer. Oct - Chip 120t of material to make the 300cu per year that i need. Other questions - if i were just to thin out the smaller material for chip and sell the larger stuff. what lengths are the most common to sell? remember we are talking a real mix of hard and softwood. comments/replys Diff lock - where would you value a forwarder like the one behind your DB1390? woodworks - Properties are fairly well insulated Site 1/130kw - 7 houses Call centre for 12 ppl Small warehouse Site 2 3 houses/village hall all the work is aimed at getting the RHI gdh - do you think that the process that i talk about above get the wood down to 25%? (being stored out in the sun from feb to oct?)
  21. Will, I had thought about this but I'm concerned about this been very green and wet. I've heard lost of stories of chip heating up and in some cases combusting in the heap while under cover. I suppose it might be worth a try tho.
  22. You make some important points. The first be a source of chip, if I have to buy chip from Stobarts or others then so be it. It should reduce my oil bill from £15,000 per year to around £3k per year in chip. I just don't like the idea of stobarts hauling chip from the north of Glasgow when potentially I can drag it 200 yards from my wood.
