  1. Due to our growing client base and work load we are looking to take on a suitably competent arboriculturist for VTA and survey work on the Isle of Man. The position would initially be on short term contract, but with a view to becoming permanent. The person we are looking for would have: Essential: level 3/4 in arb, some experience with recording tree data and/or carrying out VTAs, and a good grasp of BS 3998. Desirable: PTI accreditation, some experience with BS 5837 report writing, and/or a tree surgery background with CS38. Above all the person must be positive and friendly. Besides the above there will also be tree surgery work available, if wanted. Terms of employment and rates of pay are negotiable, and we could also assist with living arrangements. Please call Ben on 07624 259720 or email [email protected] for more info. Thanks for reading.
  2. Hello chaps, I am getting more and more requests to provide tree surveys. I generally follow BS5837 when recording data (here on the Isle of Man we aren't required to follow any BS) but my maps vary from hand drawn crosses and squiggles on standard boundary maps or boundary maps scanned and then edited in word processing apps or even good old hand drawn maps, but I see (what I'm guessing are) CAD maps that display crown dimensions etc. and would like to know where to start with all of that. Is there a good entry level arb software to start making good maps or do I jump straight into CAD software? Thoughts and suggestions very welcome. Cheers.
  3. Thanks Mabbs, wasn't wasted.
  4. Cheers Dan, I'm always blown away by how welcoming arb forums can be. Will look and do the same.
  5. Hello tree people, thanks for having me. The bottom line is that I intend to get on the FdSc Arboriculture online course via Myerscough college in September next year and would like to know what I can read and research, before then, to get a leg up (not over, it's online). I have NC Arb from Merrist Wood about 11 years ago and have been in the industry since then, in varying roles. I passed and let go of ISA Certified Arborist (passed it in Canada where it's needed, and let it go when I returned to UK, silly I know). I have a pretty rounded knowledge and consider myself to be up to date but spent most of the time on a rope so a little unsure as what to expect with the next step of education. What can start looking at to engage my brain for next year? Also, I need to complete a pre entry assignment due to my NC not racking up enough UCAS points. Any ideas what the assignment might be? Thanks for reading and I welcome any advise (other than don't do it:) Ben
