  1. The roots are always protected with very few exceptions. One of which is if they are blocking an Ordinary Watercourse, that is one which drains the Public Highway It can be a ditch, a stream or a river. I went through this with my local council and found that the Land Drainage Act 1991 trumps a TPO in this instance. You don't even need to inform the council in advance although the owner of the tree did afterwards which led to an investigation but I was cleared of breaking any law.
  2. There are not many of these about.
  3. Wear a pair of Dickies overtrousers then you take those off when you finish. Saves the boots filling up
  4. I've had three of these and the best one I've come across is the Firefox. Made in England not cheap Chinese trash but it is good value for money easy to use and chucks out the heat. Fit yourself and save money . You need a 150mm flue liner these days but it's a simple job as long as you get all the measurements right. You just have to get Building Control forms from your local council and be inspected at the start and finish.
  5. I've been doing the same sort of thing for two years. A plan is essential, talk to SWOG or the Woodland Trust. For biodiversity leave all standing deadwood unless it is dangerous and build habitat piles from brash. Plant trees that provide food for wildlife like elder, hawthorn, blackthorn, crab apple. Open spaces are important and make a pond if possible. Have you fenced it off. You don't want people and dogs walking around when you are using a chainsaw.
  6. Lumberwolf you were right. I tried it and it worked. But why? It's not in their manual.
  7. My Husqvarna 435 has a problem with the starter cord. It comes right out and goes slack and won't go back but when I loosen off the screws on the cover it snaps back in with a big recoil. So I am sure the spring is OK I've tried taking the cover off and setting the flywheel prongs in different positions but no success. Does anyone know a solution.
  8. I have a timber pro cs58 with the 20 inch bar cost£79 and is the best value for money I have ever had Starts every time from cold within ten seconds and cuts as well as my Stihl and husqvarna 2 year guarantee Plastic is cheap looking but ok Nothing fancy but does the job
  9. This was on Dragons Den last night. They didn't get an investment, It looked like a good idea in principle for the small producer. I'll probably make my own version
