  1. Hello, trying to decide on a new truck. Thinking of crew cab and trailer combo but the weight of loaded truck and trailer plus weight of trailer is confusing to say the least!!! I passed my test in 2005 so I understand I can pull 3.5 tonne plus 750 kg? But how heavy is the average trailer?? Is there anyone else out there more knowledgeable than me out there....... Can't be hard

  2. Also while I'm here can anyone give some obvious pros and cons of landy tippers? Seen a few advertised, just wondered why you don't see more of them. Loading space and fuel are the main draw backs I'm guessing? They look great though!

  3. Hello again. Feel like I'm going bananas looking at endless trucks on Gumtree, eBay ect..... Decided that £5500 is absolute upper limit, and was wondering if anyone has for sale or knows of any gooduns out there I might not have seen? Live on the Isle of Wight but obviously prepared to travel most distances for the right truck.

  4. All very helpful, thanks. With another transit, would you guys recommend an older one with low miles or newer model with higher mileage? Also for a model between `05 and '07, how many miles are they good for? Thanks again

  5. Hello people. Just got the mot quote for my 1996 transit tipper.......... And it's time to say goodbye to her. Rusting away! I've no clue about vehicles, I have to be honest, and was wondering what type or make or models to go for or avoid?!? I'm shopping in the £3.500—£4.000 mark. Not great I know but any help would be gratefully received

  6. Hello, just got hold of a bit of yard space and need to clear it of weeds. The nettles are waist /chest high!!! I want to get some herbicide to spray and kill the buggers............. What's the strongest stuff I can get my hands on in the UK?? Glyphosate based stuff like roundup seems to be all I can get. Is It going to do the job? I've read about some other stuff I'd have to bring in from USA that would get rid of everything that grows for a year or more! Sounds great but banned over here. Any ideas welcome....... As whatever I do I'm sure they're going to come straight back!

    Thanks

  7. Hello, just getting into milling and woodwork. Slowly buying bits and pieces for a workshop. Yesterday was lucky enough to be given two great woodworking benches. Only they have no vices on them, i'm going to buy them but apparently there is more to vices than I realised. Can anyone tell me what type of vice I need to fix on my benches. Do I need two or more? Record vices in all numbers or models seem good. But what are the numbers?? Thanks for any advice

  8. Hello, after successfully milling my first lot of timber, I was wondering what is the best way of getting these buggers flat and usable once dry? Obviously a planer thicknesser sounds like the way but without access to one can i use an electric power planer without losing all my thickness? Or is it hand plane all the way!!???!

  9. Brilliant. Thanks for all the advice! I've saved the biggest straightest piece for tomorrow. I want to cut it into actual boards, if you catch my drift? Rather than through and through, I've seen a vid where they cut the top cut then the bottom cut, then a new top cut to create 3 flat sides!! Then through and through, creating boards. God knows how you make it square! I'll show you how it went tomorrow! Cheers again

  10. Ok cool, i wasn't sure if the stickering was right? What's the best thickness do you think? I did three butt's in 1.5 days. So not all that productive time wise but definitely faster now as I really did make it up!!! The first cut took me a long time to set up and I'm sure there must be a better way than how I bodged it! But it turned out pretty good anyhoo. Thanks. I'll go again tomorrow and post more pics

  11. Safe to say I had a great day!! Hard work, but worth the toil. Not sure what everyone else thinks of the results but I am well chuffed considering I pretty much had no idea what to do! Thanks to people on here who post things about milling, I learned all I needed to discover an addictive new hobby! Cheers

  12. Hello. I'm itching to get out and mill my first timber having purchased the whole set up recently! Looks like Thursday will be my opportunity, so i was wondering if there is any definitive video or YouTube link I could see on setting up first cuts and any other little tips I wouldn't know about, being a complete novice! Thanks in advance, I'll post my in at the deep end attempt at milling regardless, and let you all rip me apart!! Hahahaha

  13. Thanks for everyone's input, i'm going to try milling some and seeing how it goes. I've sure got a sh#$load of chopping boards out there! It will be my first milling job! After that 2big yews! I'll try and post some pics. Thanks
