  1. I probably ******* could!!!
  2. Yes Joe, I will have to check that out and make sure they don't, another bonus of the maillons is that any undoing is a lot more obvious than the rings, I hated when I can't see the joins!
  3. When sat in the pear should have the leg and waist loops at the bottom and the bridge in the skinny end, I'll put a pic up when I try it.
  4. Cheers Tony, like I said, I'm just climbing for fun and am a tinkerer so weight and janglyness ( :0) ) rant an issue for me, I just wanted to check I wasn't making a obvious mistake that could make it unsafe. I saw some ppl using screw shackles instead of rings which scared the crap out of me, at least the maillons won't have anything touching the opening.
  5. The harness was made with the webbing bit you feel safe changing that! The maillon would be loaded correctly, I'm not 100% that the ring is as strong in every orientation, it has a join after all with a small screw!
  6. Is there a safety concern though with the maillons and the rigging plate, in my mind every component it of sufficient strength and will be loaded correctly. Why were you concerned with the connectors being steel? Cheers Steve
  7. I'm thinking of the medium one, they are a bit smaller than they look in the pics, I think it will workout lower than the standard bridge, just!
  8. Good point, I am only doing this for recreation so don't have insurance, unless its something petzl pay out if their gear fails? I'm happy enough changing things so long as they are at least as strong, I wouldn't go un picking stitching or anything, but I have to trust my splicing and knot tying so I trust a change of connector so long as its strong enough!
  9. But here are the component parts to give you an idea.
  10. Don't have bits yet, pics in a few days!
  11. Hi Guys I know that if these are bad ideas someone will let me know!! 1. Swap out the gold rings for 12mm pear maillons, I just don't link the rings with their sticky out plastic bits, surly the maillons have got to be better, also easy to swap out different bridges. Which brings me on to point number two..... 2. Clip a DMM bat rigging plate directly to the rings (or maillons), yes you lose the ability to have your device of preference slide about but you do get 3, 5 or 7 reliably spaced clip-ins? I'm sure this wont be everyone's cup of tea, but from a safety point of view is this a bad idea. Look forward to your thoughts! Steve
  12. Should be ready for the weekend so I'll get you some action shots!
  13. Well, thanks anyway.
  14. It i true that a big fall would rip it to shreds, but as you say the ID is pretty sturdy so it's not really an issue. That said I am going to swap the sling for a petzl Jane strop so I CAN use it as a back up. If I ever needed to change ropes and couldn't strop on to anything it would free up the ID! There... Even criticism can be helpful!
  15. I do, what, ehhh :0/
  16. Lol, the same as the rest of you, if I'm lucky ill chuck a throw line up and put my cambium saver in, if not I just chuck a bundle over a branch. If you mean how the rig works YouTube a RADS or YOYO setup. It's about he same.
  17. I usually have it away from me because then it keeps the handle away from the rope end, might change that if I can make the space. Just ordered a few bits so will put a pic up once I've come to a conclusion. Thanks for all the ideas!
  18. Thanks LumberJake ( awesome name BTW ) ill take a look at this, the swivel would be nice but I think I'd rather keep the ID orientated one way, I'll have a browse, what swivel would you recommend?
  19. Hi Alex I did think of that but decided to sacrifice the friction for the mechanical decent lever and the ability to lockout the device which gives me a lot of piece of mind. Clipping to the biner kind of solves one clutter problem but makes another. I've seen a few ppl with mini 3 hole rigging plates on the bridge that they clip to, seems that might do the job!
  20. Thanks Grais, I tried my friends hitch climber before I bought this and it just seemed like too much work for me, much more agile I will grant you but this is a better fit for me!
  21. The sling is just to stop me dropping it and also to stop me descending to far away from it, I was thinking of swapping it out for a strop at some point so it could work for fall arrest.
  22. Haha fair point about the amount of rope! But once I get a rhythm going I make pretty quick progress!
  23. I'm just doing it for fun at the moment, at the top I'm going through a cambium saver, soon to be incorporating a pulley!!!
  24. Big plus is that I never have to tend slack I know how much that annoys ppl on hitch systems!
  25. I saw a guy using this for tree work on YouTube and it seemed to fill my needs, I can get up an down a rope quick and easy, the ascender pops off if not needed then I can use the ID in belay mode just like the hitch climber. Also just using my arms is building my strength and leaves my legs for moving about. I'm down in Hertfordshire, lovely tree country!
