  1. Hey guys, I have used a 3 : 1 pulling system before, but today I was playing around with a 5 : 1 system, and wondering if I have done it correctly? I know everything is too close together, my setup was tight. In the field all the hardware would be more spaced out. Please see attached picture. Thanks so much in advance for your help
  2. Oh my brother is a sailor. Man, hopefully he can come and just redo it I think that would be easier.. hit it a lot of the hammer and still its not going in. thanks for the help
  3. Hello, My brother splices for a living. He is rarely in town and when he is, its for a short time. Anyways, I got him to splice an eye into my climbing rope, but it was very stubborn and we didn't have time to finish it. The core is left exposed. How can I fix this? I have tried jamming the core into the sheath with a screwdriver, but made little progress and really don't see where its going to go in the center of the eye. thanks alot
  4. Ok thanks guys will look into some kind of cambium saving device. good tips
  5. Hey guys, want to help set up a kids swingset. any reccomendations on the best anchor would be appreciated. obviously could just throw the rope around the tree, double or with a running bowline at one end, but was wondering if there is something better that will reduce friction on the tree. suppose could set up a cambium saver as well. goal is durability. thank you
  6. thanks everyone. took it to the shop today and he said nothing wrong he could see. said that i might have installed it with the chainbrake on. i dont think so. no problems today about 2 hours of bucking. thank you this site is really excellent
  7. thanks alot everyone. i meant an anchor between 2 or more points. i feel better on those.

  9. personal tie in point sorry for not being clear
  10. Hey guys, I dont know whats going on with my chainsaw. Ive been cutting small trees and brush and the chain keeps falling off. I have it a little tighter than normal to try to combat it, but still happens. I put a new chain on it today (but accidently cut against a brick for a few seconds). It is falling off the tip and around the wheel part that makes it turn. its a ms290 stihl, only 7 months old. could it be the dull chain? any advice would be appreciated. thank you very much
  11. Hey guys I have been sometimes using the friction saver with micro pulley and my rope over another main branch / trunk to create 2 anchor points. it makes me feel alot better with 2 anchor points. what are some other options i can use? like friction saver, etc... ? can i use webbing? thanks alot

  15. Hello all I am wondering how do you tie on once youve removed all the limbs of a conifer type tree and have just the vertical trunk left to piece apart? Obviously youve got your spurs and a lanyard, whats the best way to tie your climbing line on? thanks alot i really appreciate it

  21. UPDATE: Tree is dismantled http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/54212-60-silver-maple-dismantle.html
  22. Basically i got up as high as a could to tie the anchor. Then went down and cut all the lower branches i could without any kind of rigging. Then attatched a pull line to one of the main branches and toped it with the pull line. which seemed very stressful and kind of unesecary. then i set up my anchor on two of the main branches. (picture coming soon) this made me feel a lot more comfortable to walk out close to the tips of the branches overhanging the greenhouse. I got 90% of those down with the hand saw (silky). I either cut and chucked or caught with webbing girth hitch or rigged with the webbing lower on the branch. Then i did step cuts chogging down, which were easy. the pieces were usually about 2 feet. At last there was one main branch left to top. i topped the 2 branches on it about 15' down and they were fine. the only targets were 2 shrubs in the yard and 1 large greenhouse. a piece of dead wood punctured the green house , but i did not let anything land on it that i cut. just a little 2 ft by 1 inch piece that was stuck in the tree! its ok. then i set the pull line. made the notch. made the back cut very methodically as the tree was leaning towards greenhouse. then finally i was able to pull the tree forward with the 3 to 1 system. THANKS! Here they are. I will be adding more from different cameras in the next few days. 1) You can see the silver maple 2) the last 25'. i used a 3 to 1 system with micro pulley and a block cow hitched to a neighboring tree. 3) I did the tree 98% alone so i had to be creative. I used some logs to weigh the pull line down when felling the trunk. I am estimating that this gave me about 450LB of pressure. thank you again. you all helped me to accomplish this. thank you -Jesse, thanks alot. i have to clean that up... i have a dump trailer... maybe someone will be able to help out!
  23. Did this basically solo with a few hours of help from the wife. I posted a thread for advice a while back and thanks so much for everyones help i really appreciate it. Some of you asked for pictures http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/rigging-roping/52992-how-would-you-rig-tree.html Here they are
