  1. Cranked the saw over, no fuel coming from the fuel line to the carb, tank doesnt appear to be pressurizing! noticed two deep scores parallel to one another below the piston ring, would this affect it in any way?

  2. Hi

I'm Having problems with an 088 it was bought as a non runner by a friend who i cut with!,it wont start? it has plenty of compression, fuel lines filter all appear to be fine, i fitted a new spark plug, has a good spark, choke appears to be ok, linkages doing as they should, baffles working, jets appear to be fine, diagphram ok, the saw will run with a small amount of petrol put direct into the carb, then dies? if you repetativley crank the saw with the choke open,as if to flood it,the plug is bone dry? any thoughts or help would be appreciated? Cheers, Chris

  3. Hi Brett, think what type of crane you go for depends on your budget and what you are going to use it for? i use a modified Lucas swing lift, it can manage builder bags of logs no problem, Cheap to buy! plentifull and simple! they dont alter the nose weight of the trailer either! Cheers.

  4. you will find he hauls farm produce hey .straw, etc

Nick you seem like a decent guy, i think you have been far to honest! most of the ladds on here dont appreciate the costs in running HGV,s our wagons are running at 3/5 MPG Heavy Haul, they are always in the worshop, lights, mudwings, air problems, not to mention tyres! the 8x4 tippers are the exact same! always rattling to bits because of quarry/site tracks, etc, the straw wagons were not that different this year either! always stuck in gateways, trying to deal with wet straw/hay that wont sit right loaded, losing bales etc, Trucks are hard work!! not a lot of profit, for a lot of graft! nights in the garage trying to find brake faults knowing you have got customers waiting in the Morn!

We are still forgetting the new mandatory CPC Training that involves more costs to the Haulier! Nick, well done mate, read lots of good posts about you! Hauliers deserve all the profit they get! its a hard game monopolised by the Stobarts of the world!!:thumbup1:

  5. Hi guys, new to the forum, this is the first year since i started shooting that i havent been out for a pheasant! doesnt seem to be many about wild where i am? its also the first year that i havent been a member of a syndicate! a lot of lads i know are the same especially with syndicates, driven days, nobody seems to have the cash to splash?

  6. The trailer test is definatley something to take serious!, i drove for years pulling trailers of my own and thought nothing of it, i just took it for granted that i could, and because i had been on the tractors with straw trailers from the age of 16 etc naturally thought i was up to the task, it wasn,t until a friend had an accident towing a trailer, that i realised how serious it was, he was threatened with being done for not being insured! he didnt have the B + E, and technically he wasnt insured to be pulling a ifor 3.5 ton trailer! its a dodgy game taking a chance! it only takes 1 puncture at the side of motorway, Mr traffic cop appears at the back of you to investigate whats happened out of nosieness, asks some questions! Done! uv got a problem!

I went straight out and booked a test, used my own jeep and trailer, didnt think i would need any training, FAILED! not because of the trailer work, reversing, hitching, etc, but because, at a roundabout i pulled out onto it whilst a car was approaching from the right, indicating right, but decided to cut the roundabout and go straight on!! felt so P****d off!

Moral of the story, Treat the test like you are resitting your driving test! Dont trust anyone out on the road, take no chances! the trailer bit is the easy bit!

  7. Thanks for the advice! theres probably a few others lurking out there wondering the same things! hopefully some of these answers helps them? as for me, well i will make a point of contacting the local colleges, Oatridge/Barony, to see about prices, timescales! better build up some coins to pay my way through it!!

    Great Forum by the way!!

    Cheers

  8. Yup, thanks! i am as good as married and have son, who also seems to have Diesel in his blood! as for the expence and time, i understand what you mean! got the saws, got some climbing kit, experimented a little, just really need to look into training/certification! and then gain experience!

What and how many categories for chainsaws/climbing/rigging etc are there before you can actually go out and climb a tree legit?

  9. Thanks for that, good to see that i,m not the only one with the same train of thought? Not expecting to be a Millionaire doing it, but at the same time, dont want to struggle either, certainly not scared of any hard work anyway! probably not the best at saving! but then again i'm a great believer in the statement, "you get what you pay for"

  10. Hi Folks, New to forum looking for some honest advice, i am 29 spent most of my life around Machinery, diesel seems to be in the blood, left school straight into agri contracting, them demolition, quarrying, plant hire, moved up the ranks to GF running large scale muck shifting sites, i am currently a plant manager for a large scale plant hire company i hold 11 categories on my card etc etc! suppose what i am trying to say is, the enjoyment of the job has disapeared now that i have a company phone, and a laptop! not to mention Health and Safety!!! i do make a good steady wage where i am, i still go out and cover the plant when the boys from the monday morning club dont show! for the last three years i have been doing logs in my spare time, felling the odd tree on the farms i frequent! i have always had an interest in cutting, love working with saws, and have done from an early age, although i do'nt have any relevant tickets for them! is 29 too old to start learning tree surgery? is it a career path that is going to pay? the logs can do well, but are seasonal, just like the Agri contracting! what do you guys think?
